Avi clip dosn't load

Im new to the program and Im using 11.5 plus. When I try to load a avi video it dosn't load. Any codecs I need for this?

AVI is not a single video file format, but it is a container. It can contain one of about 800 types, DV, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-4, which one are you using?
Codecs are needed for any compressed video file to be viewed or edited, which one depends on the type of video file. Also do not be quick about installing codec packs. They tend to be full of codecs that not only will conflict with each other, but will confilct with what may already be installed on your system.
