Text links and order of Title sequences
I have full version and patches installed with ws2.
An extra menu has a dozen text links to different video titles in an extra menu with a list of deleted or unused scenes in the main movie. I'm not using buttons because the text links seem simple enough. I hope that's not a mistake.
I've figured out how to auto highlight the first selection but the problem I see is that once a selection is played, the first topmost selection is highlighted again. This becomes a problem near the bottom of the text links because one then has to scroll all the way to the bottom each time, which looks rather horrible and is a waste of time.
I've looked around but I must have missed something. I hope I don't require buttons to make this work. I don't mind buttons but why use them when it's not necessary.
I don't see how using the Play List can make this work. Each title must be played individually. I don't want an option to play them together. I just want the highlight to show the next title in the list after returning to the menu.
How do I achieve it?

The playlist in text works similarly to buttons.
However, my favourite technique for text menus is to simply write the title of each item as inactive text. I then draft a button to fit over each text title and make this an invisible button and use this as the active menu item. This way, you get the best of both worlds with better highlighting.

Thanks for help from the both of you. Maybe I'm a bit dense, or perhaps I wasn't clear but I didn't follow what you wrote at all.
The problem I have is what the user will see once the project is completed. Once a title in any menu has been played and the user is returned to the same menu, I want the highlighted text to automatically move to the next button down the list, each time, so that the user is not required to scroll down the list each time. With a long list that become repetitive. The commercial DVD's I've seen have this function so I assume it must be available here, if I can just be shown by one of you experts.
It makes no difference if I use text or buttons. I cannot seem to find a way to make the menu intelligent enough to know that a title selection has already been played so highlight the next title selection in the menu, not the default highlighted title button.
Or perhaps it's just that I'm not intelligent enough, which, by default, is generally the case.
I'd sure like to see someone who understands what I mean address this, set by step. I can hardly believe there is no way to do this. This is the only problem which is keeping me from completing my project.

Did you try it???
In the Menu step, use the PLAYLIST for the text button.
Left-click and drag the menu from your timeline up to the playlist area for the text button.
an option will show up to either:
-Add Menu
-Add Button from Menu
When you use the "Add Button from menu", a new window will display allowing you to specify the button that should be highlighted.

Yes, that's what you said before. It does not solve the problem, unless there is something more to your idea than you're saying, or I'm understanding. I tried this first off but there is only one highlight button permitted per menu, from what I can see.
Again, I want the next title option, button or text, to be automatically highlighted when returning to the menu so that one does not have to scroll down the list of buttons or text links.
If you think what I want can be done in one menu, or if there's something I'm not getting, please give it to me in more detail.
Thanks a bunch,

ok, maybe I am misunderstanding your goal.
Let's say I have 7 titles (7 different video clips).
My Menu is like this:
Text Button 1
Text Button 2
Text Button 3
Text Button 4
Text Button 5
Text Button 6
Text Button 7
And each button links to one of the 7 different titles.
If the viewer hits Text Button 3, you want to play Title 3, then go back to this Menu, but the highlight should be on Text Button 4. Then when the Viewer hits Text Button 4, Title 4 should play, return to this menu with Text Button 5 highlighted.
Is this what you want? Or something else?

Yes, that's it exactly. You put it very well. That is exactly what I want to do.
If this is what you can do from your previous explanation, then I'm missing how to understand what you are saying, that is, how to force the menu to highlight the next button or text link after returning. I don't see anyway to do this from what you suggested.

ok
1) Make sure all your TEXT Buttons have the associated Title Linked to them.
2) Now click on a text button, then hit the TEXT Tab over in the LEFT column (there's MENU/BUTTON/TEXT).
3) Then click on the PLAYLIST radio button
You should see the Title that will play if you hit that text button
4) now drag the menu from your timeline up to underneath the title
You should be given an option to
-Add Menu
-Add Button from Menu
5) Select the Add Button From Menu, and then in the popup window, select the button you want highlighted.
Repeat Steps 2 - 5 for each of your Text Buttons on the menu.
p.s. personally, I would have the button that was pressed be the highlighted button when returning to the menu (instead of the next button on the list)

1) Make sure all your TEXT Buttons have the associated Title Linked to them.
DONE, no problem.
2) Now click on a text button, then hit the TEXT Tab over in the LEFT column (there's MENU/BUTTON/TEXT).
DONE but this step is a bit confusing because when I click on a text button, as you suggest above, I do not need to hit the TEXT Tab because by clicking on the text button, the TEXT tab is automatically chosen. From your description is appears something is missing here. However, I just went to the next step because the TEXT Tab is now chosen.

Repeat Steps 2 - 5 for each of your Text Buttons on the menu.
DONE, but there is a problem. When playing the menu from the MENU or from FINISH, the highlighted text button on top is always selected. No matter which video title I play, when returning to the menu, the top, default highlight text button is always highlighted. I even burned the DVD to be sure.

That's weird...
That's weird, I just did a test project just to make sure it works, and it did exactly like the example above.
When you look at the Playlist for the Text Button, what do you see in the Playlist Area? List EVERYTHING you see in the Playlist area (including any words in the area).
Also, do you have that first button set as the Default Highlight button? Maybe turning that switch off (I don't know if you can)

EXTRA is the name of the menu. This is the way the buttons are listed in the menu. Notice the button number does not match the order. But that does not seem to make any difference because I made a test menu where the button names were in correct decending order and the problem presisted.
I assume you wanted a copy of each text button info. Each two lines below represents one button's info in its Play List:
exiting_church.mpg
EXTRA - Button 4
to-reception.mpg
EXTRA - Button 3
dave_greets_bride.mpg
EXTRA - Button 1
diane_interview_top.mpg
EXTRA - Button 2
Seems the default highlight button or text button cannot be removed. This first one created takes on the default and I cannot see any way to remove the default tag. I can change it, of course, but not remove it.
I hope this is what you wanted. Thanks again for your help.
