Hi Everyone,
I have several movies I have created (between 15 and 25 mins
long each) and I want to upload them to a video sharing service
(not youtube) in a high quality but low-size format.
What is the best settings in the "create video file"
settings to export my video in a high quality format?
Without them being huge files - like 700 meg.
Thanks,
Jesse

DIVX - would be the optimum for size/quality and compatibility with other players.

Hi Accolades,
Thanks for the swift reply.
But I'm using VS 10 and I'm not sure what
the "divex" option under the "create video file" list.
Could you be more specific?
Many thanks
Jesse

DivX is a commercial codec. They have a free version and also a "Pro" that costs very little. If you don't have it installed you can get it
HERE.
There's also an open-source free version called Xvid, which is very much like DivX. You can get it from
Xvid's Website.
I believe both codecs are generally wrapped in the
avi container. So to locate it within VS10, you first need to look at the AVI compressions, or codecs, not MPEG. Open Project Properties [ALT]+ [ENTER], for the
Edit File Format change it to
MicroSoft AVI files. Now press the
Edit button. In the
Project Options dialog window, go to the
AVI tab, and press the drop-down menu for
Compression. It should have a few codecs, one possibly being DivX.
For Share>Create Video File;
Select
Custom from the menu options. In the
Save as Type make sure
MicroSoft AVI Files is selected. Next press the
Options button. In the
Video Save Options dialog window, go to the
AVI tab, and so the same as above.
Now if you're running VS10 on a Vista machine, forget the above. For some reason, VS with Vista does not see and you will not be able to use the DivX codec, at least I've not been able to. It works fine on XP, but not Vista.
Please complete your
System Information in your profile. Clicking on this button -->

will take you to a short tutorial, explaining how to find and complete that information. This way it will always be available, and will save you from retyping it in the future.

Going on from the above we have two tutorials on DivX and Xvid
09: VS 11/11.5: Encoding in Xvid MPEG-4
and
VS: Encoding in DivX format using Video Studio
There is also a video based tutorial here:
Creating YouTube Videos using DivX
and another
DivX in High Gear
Different Host Services also have there own recommended settings,

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your help.
But there is a problem. When I follow the
steps from the tutorial "Ulead VideoStudio -
Creating YouTube Videos"
I get this error message:
"Unable to compress the video. There may
be a codec drive error or the frame size
is not supported."
Anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks,
Jesse

Jesse,
Could you please right-click on one of your clips (each if they are all different) in the timeline or library, select
Properties and post them back here? Then we might be able to provide a more accurate solution..

Hey Ron,
Yes I can do that.
But first, I just noticed that my project properties is ...
PAL (25 fps)
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 4:3, 25 fps
Upper Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 2
See any problem here?

IF your source video files are DV, then the field order is reversed. DV is always Lower Field First. So I'm real interested in what your source clip properties are..
DV is Digital Video, which is used by mini-DV and Digital-8 camcorders. It is the exact format that is recorded to tape. It should be transferred to your PC using a Firewire.

This thread prompted me to do some looking at my VS installs, and DivX. I found that there was another update for DivX, however I also discovered that VS Pro X2 has a version of DivX listed that is way outdated. VS11.5+ had the most recent (before updating DivX) version.
After running the DivX update, VS11.5+ reflected this updated version(6.8.4 and the 5.1.1) , VS Pro X2 did not. I even tried doing a repair install, and it still shows version 5.1.1.
I'm not sure why VS Pro X2 is not picking up on the current DivX...

I think previous version of VS also installed DivX 5.1.1 and it chooses that version since a lot of stand-alone DVD players can only play DivX rated discs burned with version 5 of the codec, and not 6.
As for the newer version not showing, I usually find that after I have rebooted the computer once or twice, it should up. However, I have just checked my X@ Pro, and it too just shows DivX 5.1.1 and not 6.6.1 which is also installed. VS11.5+ correctly shows 6.6.1 and both it and X2 also show XVid with no problem. I have rebooted this computer several times since installing X2 so am not sure what is going on!
But thanks for the heads-up: I hadn't realised there was a newer version of the codec available!

Well I just uninstalled DivX completely, then reinstalled it and rebooted. VS Pro still only sees the older one.

Ken, Ron
As you are aware I am at my workplace so can only generalise.
When I re-installed all of my versions of VideoStudio onto my laptop recently
I found that I could carry over the templates created in the make movie templates manager from earlier versions to newer versions.
It is one of the files in the user settings
C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0.
Or the XP Equivalant. If you can't find it I will hopefully be doing mine tonight.

FWIW, I have just downloaded and installed DivX 6.8.4 Pro. After rebooting, it does not show in X2 but does in VS11.5+... i.e. identical situation to Vidoman.

If you have previously created a DivX template in 11 then...
Try copy/paste the template.dat (not sure of the exact name) from the user directory above from 11 to 12.
(Make a back up first) - then see if DivX 6 is in your list.
