Hi all
Ive been useing uvs7 & 8 for a while know i havent seen the need to replace them yet (dont do that much video stuff) a Frein of mine has got uvs 11 plus & i was wondering why there are ony four dvd menus to choose from is it that ulead (corel) have gone down the same route as Magix & the more you upgrade to newer vers the less content you get & you have to buy additional menus from them, or is there a better answer?( i think i might know thinking about it but cannot say  ) be interested what you guys have to say, before i do take the plunge & get a newer ver than i have.
Thanks
Pete

Sounds very much like you friend has not installed the extra content that comes with the program. That's where you find all the extra menus, images, masks etc.

When I last counted the standard menu templates in VS11, I got to over 60. I think it was about 68 or thereabouts...

And, each one is customizable! (Image, music, text, buttons, etc.)

Thanks for the replys,i phoned to find out about the content cd , he told me he only had the 1 cd (bought it from ebay  ((110286095022 item number from the same people)) so i asked them the question about 1 cd or 2 and was told just the one, so i think that might have solved the question?
Thanks
Pete
PS there is only 3 menus not 4 the fourth was a sample from digitalvideoteam.co.uk looks good too (not the sample)

There is a major problem buying from ebay. There are some sellers there that apparently sell the genuine article in full. But from recent posts here, it seems there are also some unscrupulous sellers who are actually selling SE (or cut down) versions of VS which are invariably distributed free to accompany a piece of hardware or just on an OEM disk... They invariably lack the extra content, and as I say, should not be sold at all as they are free!

yep i see what you mean, sorry im still  at my m8 when i told him,
I see looking through the site that ver 11 on has a problem with analogue so that rules that out anyway, not replacing camcorder as well, so i take it i will be looking for ver 10, i know it will have its faults but is there any support that you know of :?: ie patches ect ect ,
Regards
Pete

There are patches for VS10, BUT and this is a major one... The patches do not install to TBYB (trial) and SE versions. They will only install to full versions.

Yes you can. Once you have the video on your PC, you can use the editor of your choice...;)

You can also use Windows Movie Maker, which is probably already on your computer, or download WinDV.

After your clips are captured simply import them into VS.

I'm not sure what you understand by VS11 having 'trouble with analogue', or what you are wanting to do in this regard. But yes, there was a fairly big problem capturing from an analogue source using Firewire in VS11/11+ caused by a new capture plug-in which replaced the old ones which worked! Basically, it ruled out the following: (1) capturing from the rather expensive range of external analogue capture devices which can capture in DV format via Firewire; (2) a mini-DV camera connected to an analogue VCR or camera and used as a pass-through capture device, sending a DV signal to the computer via the Firewire connection; (3) a Sony Digital 8 being used identically; and (4) a Sony Digital 8 actually playing an 8mm or Hi8 analogue tape, and sending a digital signal of it via Firewire.

The 7 November 2007 update patch fixed (1) - (3) but sadly, not (4). And this seems to have continued in X2.

So if you want 1 - 3 you can still have them, but not 4 in either VS11/11.5+ or X2. The work-around is, however, easy, as Black Lab has already suggested. You use another program to capture in DV format via Firewire, either Windows Movie Maker or, what a number of us here use, WinDV -- a small, excellent and free program which just does DV captures (and exports). You can get it from www.mourek.cz

Yes, I would imagine there would be no imagine if your stuck with VS11 with that set-up... or even VS8, depending on how fancy you might want to get with the actual editing. But apart from audio editing, which was a pain in the earlier versions, other aspects of editing are there ... basic, but there!
