I'm not sure what you understand by VS11 having 'trouble with analogue', or what you are wanting to do in this regard. But yes, there was a fairly big problem capturing from an analogue source using Firewire in VS11/11+ caused by a new capture plug-in which replaced the old ones which worked! Basically, it ruled out the following: (1) capturing from the rather expensive range of external analogue capture devices which can capture in DV format via Firewire; (2) a mini-DV camera connected to an analogue VCR or camera and used as a pass-through capture device, sending a DV signal to the computer via the Firewire connection; (3) a Sony Digital 8 being used identically; and (4) a Sony Digital 8 actually playing an 8mm or Hi8 analogue tape, and sending a digital signal of it via Firewire.
The 7 November 2007 update patch fixed (1) - (3) but sadly, not (4). And this seems to have continued in X2.
So if you want 1 - 3 you can still have them, but not 4 in either VS11/11.5+ or X2. The work-around is, however, easy, as Black Lab has already suggested. You use another program to capture in DV format via Firewire, either Windows Movie Maker or, what a number of us here use, WinDV -- a small, excellent and free program which just does DV captures (and exports).
