I currently use VS9 and had just purchased VS8 two months ago. When I purchased VS8 I already had VS5 that came with a firewire card I had purchased which got me to VS. When I upgraded to VS8 I already had VS5 installed and once VS8 installed I deleted VS5.
I plan on giving my VS8 to a friend. Does he need to install VS5 or when he starts to use the VS8 and can't find qualifying version it ask him for a disk. I am trying to save him from installing VS5 and then ultimately deleting.
Thanks for any replies.

If your VS8 was an upgrade version, rather than the full retail version, then yes, your friend will need the VS5 disc. But he doesn't need to load the program. When installing VS8, just have the VS5 disc handy, or better still, in a spare optical drive. The VS8 installation will merely check that there is a previous version on that drive, and will proceed with the installation. It is a clean installation which does not use any previous version's installed files.
