Much better keyboard shortcuts.
There are only a few and they are weird and non-standard (for example, Alt key does not work with any of the menus).
Simple things like a key to quickly get to the time entry field.
The DVD authoring is quite clunky and annoying to use, and prone to discarding all your work without notice. The wizard format is not really appropriate, and the whole thing feels like a cheap after thought. It also duplicates a bunch of stuff from the main screens, like entering chapters and adding clips.
Ability to build simple custom DVD menus. It doesn't need to be fancy: just X x Y thumbnails or text.

Here are my suggestions:
1. Badly needed: a status line indicating what VS is doing in the background while consuming 50% of the cpu and hanging VS for the duration. It would help also if there was a tape widget indicating the percent complete in the status line.
2. More compression options. I had terrible motion artifacts that I could not get rid of unless I compressed at the maximum 25Mbps rate (ie little to no compression from the original).
3. The ability the turn on/off subtitles from the DVD/BRD menus. This would allow one to put language subtitles into a movie that could be turned on/off according to the viewers language preference from the DVD/BRD menus.

Re: Ripple Editing
Not sure what you mean Kenneth. If you have Ripple Editing turned on for all tracks, it is applied to all tracks. Or you can have it turned on for some and not for others.Kenneth Veal wrote:To have ripple editing apply to ALL tracks ............Ken

Ripple Edit
with all tracks selected for ripple editing on, sometimes I will get a message that ripple editing will not be applied if I continue.I carry out the edit and then I have to go through the project to re align all the overlays and titiles etc that have not moved in sync with the video track.........Ken

Re: Ripple Edit
It's working correctly... I often get this message when I turn on all the tracks. The usual problem is that an audio track or another track can;t move and be in sync with what's happening either before or after the cut point (or insert point). So something has to give. You have to then make a decision once the offending track is identified that will creat the least amount of re-syncing....it's a pain but it pays to plan aheadKenneth Veal wrote:with all tracks selected for ripple editing on, sometimes I will get a message that ripple editing will not be applied if I continue.I carry out the edit and then I have to go through the project to re align all the overlays and titiles etc that have not moved in sync with the video track.........Ken
The only way to toally avoid it is not to sync untill you have all the elements in place. Then turn ripple editing on and start from the beginning and make the little adjustments to do things like syncing with audio or other. If you work in a linear fashion you can get a lot out of ripple editing....

There is a significant bug in VSX2 for smart-rendered Canon HF100 footage. Stutters appear both before and after all cuts in footage (whether transitions are inserted or not). These stutters are only noticeable on a fluid pan, but they are very noticeable in this case. Please fix this bug.

I have been advising users of ALL HD cameras, both HDV and AVCHD, not to use SmartRender at all with their editing. High quality will be maintained by using the original settings for a full render, and the only thing you really lose is the time -- though I find that a lot of blips and glitches that seem to be associated with SmartRender are also not present...

Hi, Ken. I have tried rendering the HF100 file without using smart render, and the quality suffers significantly. When I use the bundled software to edit my movies (Pixela for the HF100), they look perfect. So, I think VSX2 is not worth purchasing for owners of the HF100 because of this bug. If VSX2 were able to replicate the quality of Pixela, then it would be great.
X2 Improvements
1. A better audit trial for when a render fails. You just get a generic message which Corel says is a bad source file - but no pointer to which one it is - so with 100 clips its a slog to delete to see if I Can spot the error.
2. A speed improvement for AVCHD editing - the new patch is helpful but it still takes 3-4 seconds for the software to respond to when I click on a new clip to edit.

Smart proxy customization options
Hi,
I use Video studio Pro X2 for editing AVCHD video. Because of the bad performance on this video format, i use the smart proxy function.
I need some more customization options on the smart proxy. I would like to be able to choose in which situations the smart proxy files are used.
I.e. when playing a clip from the storyboard or timeline in clip mode the original source video is used, i would like to use the proxy files in this case. It would be great if this was a user setting, when to use the proxy files.

I would like the next version of VideoStudio to be able to edit:
a) .WTV files (the new Microsoft TV Pack format used for recording live TV with Windows Vista or Windows 7 Media Center);
and
b) .TS (Transport Stream) files (created by some hard disk digital TV video recorders)
VideoStudio ProX2 merely reports ¡§Unable to open file. File format mismatch¡¨, whereas I see from a trial version of Cyberlink Power Director 7 that this automatically converts these files to the MPEG2 format so they can be edited.
