Multi-cam editing Function......

After capturing video from 2 or more camcorders used to record an event, you import both clips into a timeline, then create cue-marks that will have a snap-to function. The clips can be synchronized using these markers. Then using the Multi-cam function, the preview window will display both clips simultaneously, allowing you to select which parts to use at any given time. It will also display the main video, showing what the project will be. In other words it would appear like 3 PiP clips in the preview window. This is a feature/function that other competitor packages of the same price range have been providing for some time now.

Screen Capture Utility

The ability to do live screen captures of videos, being viewed on the monitor. Would come in handy for producing presentations and tutorials.

I like the sound of that multi-cam editing function suggestion.
It gets my vote.

Here are my "New Year Wishes" for next VS release (currently I am using X2 Pro):

1. The possibility to have a second window where to see transitions, videos, filters etc.
Sometimes I found it boring to be forced to select one "family" e.g. transitions, videos etc.)... having a second window would make everything faster

2. To be able to import and edit some light video format but then, later on, substitute the video with a heavier one... well, I guess this is not that easy, but... how beautiful would it be if we can edit our videos with some low bit rate files (maybe prepared with the batch convert function) and then, later one change them into the original high bit rate ones... This way, I woudl not need to update my PC wand save some money ;-))

3. To improve the Crop Filter adding different geometric shapes (so far, I can only see a rectangular one)

And for your #3, I don't know that I have ever seen a crop tool that does anything more than crop horizontally and vertically. However, in VS there are Masks that you can use to achieve a cropped effect. You can import your own too.

True dual monitor support, not just stretching the VS screen over two monitors.

Something that I feel would be quite useful: to be able to copy-paste the settings (i.e added video filters, attributes etc.) from one video clip to another one

New Features

Post by Steve Jones »

These are actually small complaints from X2, but they would be handy features for me.

1. When I import video (primarily from Import Media, using AVCHD camcorder), I see the clips, but I don't see date times. I shoot video 3-4 times a week for daily production and sometimes it's hard to remember which video went with which date. The files are timestamped, why isn't that data surfaced in the import screen? Now I have to preview each clip for a few seconds. that is much better than real time import with a DV camera, but still a PIA.

2. The ability to change info on clips stored in a library. I stored lots of clips, often blooper stuff in there, and while I rename the clip, it's cumbersome, and I can't get more info. The ability to right click, add a note, would be outstanding. Then let it appear on a hover/click would be great.

3. I often fade in and out on the audio track. So I manually adjust the levels on the volume of a large track. However when I am adjusting the volume, there's no vertical line to allow me to line up audio with the video tracks above.

3a. When adjusting an audio point, the mouse is a poor way of picking a level. For example, I often lower an audio point to -17.1db, then make matching -17.1db point later and raise the audio above that. using a mouse, that's hard to do. And it will get harder as I get older. If I could select an audio point and use a keyboard, that would be great.

4. I saw it mentioned, but trying to align titles, audio with clips, it is incredibly annoying and slow to switch clips, and then have the cursor move. I have a 64bit, Win 7, quad core, 8GB RAM machine and X2 is slower than iMove '07 on a 3 year old iMac to work with clips. Some of that might be Windows, but the difference is amazing. And sad.

Probably already mentioned, but just the simple capability to copy an existing clip from the timeline into the same timeline to perform a different set of editing on.......maybe already exists and I'm too challenged to find it, but I can't recall there being that functionality.

Cheers,
Max

Drag the clip from the timeline to the library - a (virtual) copy is made. Drag it back to the timeline for your second clip.
