There are more filters in the new X2.

As for your specific need, did you try the Kaleidoscope filter?

Alternative is now inserting appropriate keyframes and setting effect strength to 0 where you don't need it.

That is true, but not all filters give you a level as low as zero (at least that's how it is in v10).

Thanks Black Lab,

Actually I have tried the Kaleidoscope filter, but I'm thinking more of an effect that can replicate an image in rows and columns of 3x3, 9x9, and so on.

If you go to the very end of this old 70's shampoo commercial, you'll see what I mean. It was this commercial that made me think of it. :D

My guess is that wasn't a video filter. Rather, is was probably multiple tracks (obviously more than the 7 that VS provides). It could probably be done in VS, but it would take some work with intermediate renders.

That effect is not a filter it is use of multiple overlay tracks.
Software like MediaStudio allows up to 99 overlay tracks.
VideoStudio which is more towards the hobbyist than the professional has 6.

You can do this in VideoStudio by using 4 overlay tracks then saving that as a project file. Then start a new project and insert the same project file 4 times on 4 overlay tracks placing each on in a different quadrant.
This gives the effect of 16 overlay tracks!!

1. Support for VirtualDub plugins! And, ideally, a support for inline AviSynth scripts (like in ffdshow).
2. Lens (Barrel) Distortion Correction filter.

Very good idea, and I'll try that, thanks. But as a "wish", I figured if VS can have a filter do the Kaleidoscope effect, why not have one like I described, call it something like "Image Multiplier", and in the "Customize Filter" window, give choices for number of rows x columns? That would eliminate a lot of time, IMO.

Just a thought, or rather- just a wish.

Pro X2 Wish List

1. Ability to have ready access to the contemporary camera information from clips, under properties, while editing. You can do this for images, but not for AVCHD video. This is vital in e.g. travelogues where the time and date footage was taken is important in helping you develop the story. I am not talking about putting this info on or off the film itself.

2. Multiple audio tracks, so that you can separate out the audio from the video and then still have two or three tracks to put commentary, music, FX etc on. The Steinberg Wave-Lab product seems to be totally un-integrated and not to have multiple tracks.

Hope I am posting this correctly (reply to topic)

Wish List for VisualStudio (I started with 6, then 9, 11, 11 Plus, now X2):
- Have a more granular default transition time and photo duration. Currently in seconds only (e.g. want 3.15 secs) - main reason to match music beat
- Have an option to change images with music beat (select a portion of the timeline, and have sampling done with a selected track)
- Better file management - Need to return to selected Image or Video folder when switching from Edit, Capture, Effects. - Better management capabilities (tagging, favourites, dim images thumb already selected in timeline).

I wish for greatly improved performance when working with AVCHD files. Even my Quad Core 2.83 GHZ struggles with playing previews (Smart Proxy files get around this problem, but take time to create) and the GUI is often sluggish and slow.

PDS= ?, PhotoShop, PrintShop...?

If it is PhotoShop, it probably isn't going to happen, as they are a competitor. PrintShop however was an older Corel program, that disappeared several years ago.

More Audio please!

Post by Zippy »

The main thing I REALLY wanted to see in VS12 (X2) was reliability. So far, so good, so thank you very much Corel for sorting this out.

The other thing I'm crying out for is more sophisticated audio handling. 2 audio tracks simply isn't enough, the filters are little more than a token effort, and only being able to edit/trim to the resolution of 1 frame (i.e. 1/25th of a second) can be quite limiting.

Bundling WaveLab in the the "Ultimate" version is all very nice (apart from the licencing joy) but it would be great to see some decent audio handling integrated within VS.
