Hi All

I've followed the new posts with great interest over the past 24 hours about the new version of Videostudio.

I use videostudio to make the video files for our annual Cub Scout Pack DVD to show off our photos and videos to the Parents and General Public.

I've used VS for a number of years, starting with version 8 I think and always upgrading.

Having viewed the other threads I've noticed quite a lot of negativity towards the new VSX2 and I'm just wondering if it's worthwhile upgrading to.

We don't use HD, just basic DVD quality. The extra transitions on the overlays would probably be quite useful as would the additional text overlay track (I believe there are now two instead of one).

Having already started the 2008 DVD in readyness for our Xmas launch, I don't want to do too much work on either version and have to redo it all!

My "gut" reaction is to go with the upgrade merely for these extra features and some of the ease of use functionallity - I think I just need reasuring !!!!

Any advice you can give would be most gratefully received.

The negativity here, apart from one user, seems to be related to the stuff-up over the activation keys... One user thinks the added extras don't warrant upgrading. My own negative reactions to date relate to one version of the extra-difficult AVCHD format which is all I have tried so far. And even with that, VS handled it much better than VS11.5+. Two other users with exactly the same camera and previous problems in VS11.5+ with it, report no problems at all with it in X2. Certainly, X2 is much faster in just about everything I have used so far, including start-up. When I get time over the weekend to play around some more, I am sure I will be more positive on just about everything else. For me, just having the transitions in the overlay tracks, makes an upgrade worthwhile... And there's other bells and whistles, including the New Blue filters which I have only played around with briefly, but can already think of some uses for, for specific and limited areas of certain projects...

So download a trial version and try it out for yourself. The download file is 'only' 172 MB, which is not very big these days.

From my experiences, as you say - the transitions on the overlays would be very useful. It can be a pain to have a nice fade between two photos and the overlay photo just disappearing - it just looks "odd".

I think i'll download the trial as you suggest and have a bit of play!!

I may be the poster Ken referred to as changes were not enough to upgrade. After playing with it a day or so I decided to upgrade. There are a few things that I'll use, the upgrade is cheap.

ok, just wanted to make sure i didnt scare anyone away with my initial posts ... i didnt use vs until version 11, and its done just about everything i needed, and its been for the most part very intuitive to use

i've had a few questions, which the experienced users here have jumped right in and clarified

what more could a person ask for

I know I'll upgrade for sure. The difference is much bigger than it was between vs 10 and vs 11

On the other hand. When 11.5 already fulfills your need why spend the extra money?

A video editor's needs are never fulfilled.

If you have used the overlay tracks for your slide shows. Then the additional overlay transitional features of VS X2 may be useful.
Give the trial a bash. Give it a bit of thought.

Otherwise
Stay where you are and donate the money to the scout group.

You are right Jeff. That's why I always found reasons to upgrade...eheh.
