I downloaded the VS 8 trial version and installed. I have an adaptec 4300 firewire card and Windows XP service pack 2 running on a Pentium 2.8 with 512MB of RAM. I am trying to capture video from a JVC digital camcorder. Everything works OK until my computer freezes about 5 to 10 minutes into the capture. Anyone have some insight into this issue?
Thanks.

I had this same problem with VS8.0 on my brand new PC - P4 3GZ with HT turn ON, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM, XP Home. Managed only 5-min of capture to DV and VS8 locks up (actually it comes back after a long while).
But after upgradind to 8.01, turning off anti-virus software (so it does not scan or do stuff in the background), and also turned of Internet (disable my LAN card from Network Settings), the problem went away. I can capture in DV format no problem from full DV tapes.
Before tweaking everthing as suggested on that link above, I would try these simple stuff first, to minimize the variables.
Good luck

V8.0 had a serious memory leak that was fixed in V8.01. Since the trial hasn't been updated (at least AFAIK), I suspect it is exhausting available memory, eventually causing the system to start thrashing and become unresponsive. And of course, the V8.01 patch cannot be used with the trial...
Another problem results from trying to capture in MPEG format on slower systems -- if the CPU can't keep up with the capture stream, it will also slowly exhaust memory before it stops capturing in order to process and clear the capture buffer.

I read through some of the other posts and downloaded the Panasonic Codec. I was able to capture the video from my DV Camcorder, however I had problems trying to burn the DVD with the new Panasonic Codec. Windows Media player also didn't like the Panasonic Codec and wouldn't play AVI files. I backed out the Panasonic Codec and I will keep trying some some of the suggestions presented and those on this board. Any other ideas are welcome.
