I just downloaded the demo of VS 12...as a VS 11.5 user I am EXTREMELY disappointed in VS 12...there is almost nothing really new...I know they have the painting creator feature, but is it just me or does that justify $60.00 for the upgrade? I love the VS products and was very much anticipating this release...but I am very disappointed that the most signifigant change is the color of the interface and the "1, 2 & 3" on the "Capture, Edit & Share" tabs.
I certainly hope that they will do a better job of features in upcoming releases.
Recently, I have been working on Final Cut Express on a Mac (yeah, I know, Mac is the enemy, and for the most part I agree), but Final Cut Express has so many more features and options it is disappointing to see VS not comparing to others out there, being that I have bought every version of VS since version 6 until 11.5...I am a huge VS fan, but when I see FCE (Final Cut Express) has so many more options for not much more money, I wonder why the makers of VS (now Corel) have not pursued more for VS...Ulead definately made new versions truly new and robust, Corel has disapppointed with this release.
I know many will flame me for the Mac stuff, and that is OK, but take a look for yourself and you will see what I speak of. FCE has a simple straight forward interface. Oh well, I guess I will stick with VS 11.5 and not upgrade as they are so similar why waste the money?

And as a quick follow up, I also wanted to acknowledge I saw the other feature added...transitions to overlay feature...yes, this is a nice addition, but as my previous post, not sure it screams upgrade to me. I am still not convinced....I know, I know, here comes the flame replies...please be mostly kind...

I find the upgrade worthwhile.

Transitions in all the videotracks. Audio fades. New blue film effects. The Paint function. Backup function of the library. 2 title tracks. VS is looking more like mediastudio pro now. I'm very satisfied.

I don't know about Final Cut. The reason I'm working on a windows pc is that I've got a bunch of software which is not available on a mac.

You've got to be kidding.

I agree with you Jean-Pierre. It also has new backgrounds for the titles, auto transitions, encoding to FLV, resizable workspace, etc.

This release has more new features than versions 10 & 11 combined. I say it is FINALLY worth the upgrade.

I respectfully disagree with you...I know that between 10 and 11 there didnt seem like much, but it just felt like there was more there than there is now...if you go to the VS 12.0 features page there really is not that much new content added beyond what has just been mentioned here...but this is all in the eye of the person who has to make the decision to purchase 12.0 or not...for me I think I will stick with 11.5 and wait for a new version that has what I believe to be more signifigant changes that would warrant me spending the money to purchase it. I wish you and all that do purchase 12.0 the best, and I hope there is no offense by my disappointment.

Ten new things were mentioned, and that was just what I could remember. You upgraded to 11.5 for fewer features than that. And, as was stated in another thread, to purchase the NewBlue effects would run you $160.

I assume that's true for most users. I'm still using VS10 (on a Win2K machine). I skipped VS9, and I'll upgrade again whenever I "need to".

There's always a group of "early adopter" types who upgrade as soon as a new version is released. Then, you've got another group (including me) who upgrades when they really need, or want, the new features.

I suppose the biggest danger in "falling behind" is that if you ask a question here about VS8 or VS9, or maybe even VS10, there's almost nobody here using still the older versions who can help you. And, tech support will probably tell you "no longer supported".

It's perfectly OK to mention or compare other programs. Just keep in mind that the "topic" of this forum is "Video Studio", and nobody will bother you.

Not so Doug, you are not alone to be satisfied with VS10. It has everything many of us want and we therefore have no intention to "upgrade". Depends how many gadgets you need. At the risk of offending some members, I personally think that if your filmed video is good you don't need any "effects". Take a look at good professional video, BBC animal films for example, how many "effects" do they use? Very few! All the extra gadgets on the succeeding versions of the editing programmes are useful for jazzing up video which would be boring without them!

I agree. I currently use v10. I did not upgrade to v11 because the upgrades weren't worthwhile to me.

My bone of contention with Dave was the fact he was saying there was almost nothing new. There is plenty that is new. If he has no use for them that is fine, but facts are facts.

My apologies for offending perhaps a few, I will say that perhaps I was a bit "raw" to say nothing "new"...I guess I meant nothing that would drive me to upgrade...if others find value in the items that Corel has put forth, then godspeed.
