When I insert video it snaps to the left.
Is there any way to slide the video over to the right, so I have space in front of it.
I guess I could add a blank image to the timeline and stretch it to the right space.
Thx,

Welcome to the forums,
Yes that is the correct behavior for clips on the Main video track. So in order to compensate users that wish have "blank spaces" to the left, for titles ect, VS provides "Color Clips". Just select one from the Color Library, which is accessed through the drop-down menu for the Libraries. VS opens in the Editor, with the Video library showing. Just press the arrow to the right..
Drag and drop a color to the left of your clip. You can adjust the duration by dragging the yellow handle to the right.

Just to add to Ron's comments, clips placed on an overlay track do not snap to the left.

Thanks,
It appears that transitions effects can't be applied to the overlay track.
Though fade in and fade out can be applied on the clip in the overlay track on the attributes tab.

That is correct. Version 12, which appears may have been released today, will allow transitions in overlay tracks.
A workaround is to prepare you clips, with transitions, in the main track, render to a dv-avi file, then reinsert that into an overlay track. Depending on your project this might work for you.
