ADs Instant DVD USB2 and MF4 audio sync shift fixed

Post by Emery »

I brought all my video in as MPG2 with MPEG1 audio, using an ADS Instant DVD USB 2.0 unit. A single continuous video
file recorded to DVD with MPEG audio played fine, but when I edited
or joined two video files together and then recorded to DVD with MPEG audio, I got an audio sync shift starting at the point where the two files joined; it was a fixed shift amount, not a progressive amount.
The fix was to record to the DVD with LPCM audio instead (what the vast majority of DVD players require anyhow). No more audio sync shift; the resultant DVD played fine. MF4 handled changing the MPEG audio of the source files to LPCM during DVD recording without a hitch. I don't know
if recording DVDs with LPCM will fix everyone's audio sync problem, but
it took care of mine. The ADs unit captures ONLY in MPEG audio, not LPCM, so it must be converted to LPCM during the final DVD recording process when using MF4.

But, MF4 still should be able to handle multiple joined files and record DVD MPEG audio from MPEG audio, so it definitely has a bug or two. I've already talked to Ulead tech supt. about this.
Otherwise, I'm very happy :D with MF4, so far.
Hope this helps.

The ADS Instant DVD 2.0 device captures LPCM audio when you select to capture separate streams in the CapWiz application (from what I remember).

It may be worth trying to use VideoStudio 9 to do the editing and export a DVD Compliant MPEG-2 file, then making the DVD with DVD MovieFactory, just to see if the behavior is isolated to MF4. Worth a test, I would think.

Good luck.

Emery, I also captured by source using the ADS Instant DVD 2.0 box and I have been unable to generate a DVD where the audio and video stay in sync. In my case the sync gets progressively worse toward the end of the 2 hour MPEG2 until it is off by at least 1 second. My project plays perfectly with the built in player in DMF4 so I have been unable to figure out what is changing when the files are output. Any ideas?
