Can VS10 edit MP4 files?
I have a Sony Net Sharing Cam which is an MPEG 4 video camera. The files it shoots come up as MP4V files. Can VS10 edit those files or do you have to have the plus version of Videostudio 10 to be able edit those type of files?

If you are talking about the Vista patch for VS10/10+, it does not revert VS10+ to VS10 basic!
It reverts *Vista* to Basic while VS is open. Or rather, it takes away the nice Aero effect of the Vista Home Premium/Business/Ultimate desktop...
So if yours is VS10+, it should be able to edit your mpeg-4 files. I would be sure, though, to use any installation disk which came with the camera, as that sounds as though it might require a special codec. Moreover, the V usually indicates that the video does not contain the audio stream, which would be in a separate file.

lost export as mpg4 file when installing Vista patch
I have VideoStudio 10 Plus. I just bought a new computer with Vista Home Premium. Installed VS 10 Plus, but there were compatibility issues, so I installed the Vista patch from web site. However, after installing the Vista patch, I lost the option to save video as mp4 file. What can I do to restore the mp4 export option, which is the reason I bought the Plus version of VS 10 in the first place? Thanks for any advice.
P.S. I did not understand the administrator's previous post, so please clarify whether I can restore the mp4 feature to my VS10 Plus.

Hmmm!
I never ran VS10+ on a Vista machine until recently. Now I only use it because it is the only version that can (with another patch) successfully export edited HDV back to a Canon HDV camera. But that does not require the Vista patch. So I had not installed the Vista patch until now to test out Doug's problem.
Unfortunately, I find that Doug is right and that output to mpeg-4 has disappeared. You can still change the capture plug-in to MPEG-4 capture, and edit in that format, but there is no mpeg-4 output template that I can find.
The only thing I can think of at the moment is to create your own template using an existing mpeg-4 file that you might have. Unfortunately, I have no standard def mpeg-4 files on my computers at the moment -- only AVCHD/H264 ones -- so I cannot test this myself.
Go into Tools > Make Movie Manager. Then click on the Add button (not the New one which you would normally choose). A new dialogue box will appear. The top line has a mysterious button with '...' which you click on to browse to where you have an mp4 file with the properties you want for the template. Select that file. Give the template a name, and then click OK. The new template name should appear in your choices for Share > Create Video File dropdown menu.
Please let us know if that works. (It does with high def video.) NOTE that you cannot later edit the properties of this template. You have to use it as is. If not, it reverts to some vanilla template such as the mpeg-2 one.
