Learned colleagues;

I am capturing and editing HD footage for submission to a footage stock agency that require clips to be in the Quicktime MOV format. Videostudio 11+ can render direct to Quicktime MOV files, but there is a HUGE arrray of compression codecs to choose from. If I do NOT compress, the resultant file is, obviously TOO huge to upload to the internet, but what is the best means of getting a small enough file whilst still maintaining High Definition? In other words, which of the many options or codecs should I suggest for the best footage quality? I am only going to produce 15-30 second clips, but must keep them to around 500MB.

I've never made a Quicktime file, but maybe I can help with one thing... File size is determined by bitrate, and of course, playing time.

15-30 seconds, or 15-30 minutes? Even in HD, your files should not be that big!!!!

You can estimate file size (any format) with the following formula:
File Size in MB = (Bitrate in kbps x Playing Time in seconds) / 8,400

Or,
File Size in MB = (Bitrate in kbps x Playing Time in minutes) / 140

I work in a stock footage library and we only preview footage to clients in MOV format....and even then it's with a burnt in time code.

We wouldn;t supply in the format unless specifically asked.
