Hi, I'm finalizing a project - DVD menue with 3 AVI files. While runing preview in the "Creat Disc" option, it's working fine. When burning to DVD and to a folder in my HD, UVS10+ stats its compleated succesfuly BUT when playing the DVD on a computer or TV with DVD player, there is no sound. Files are with DV audio 48000KHz 16 bit, project length is about 1hour 15 min. Sometime I managed to burn DVD with audio and sometime only one or two AVI files has it. The DVD menu audio always plays good.
Any hint for this phenomena?

You are obviously doing your editing in the Editing module, and then jumping straight to the burning module. You don't give us the properties of your AVI files -- that is important since there are over 800 types of video which call themselves .avi but they are very differenct from each other and some are easier to edit than others. However, since you later refer to DV audio, I am assuming that the AVI video has come from a mini DV camcorder. Is that correct?

Some people follow the same workflow that you did and it works for them. Others, like you, have problems with it. So for people like you, we recommend that you finish your editing, then select Share > Create Video File > DVD. This will create a DVD-compatible mpeg-2. If your video is in fact DV/AVI, make sure the properties for this conversion include Lower Field First (NOT Frame Based or Upper Field First.

After you produce your new mpeg-2, you go to File > New Project. Don't worry about giving your new project a name. The objective is just to clear the timeline of your current project.

Once that is done, you select Share > Create Disc > DVD. The burning module will open. Use the Add Media button at the top to insert your new mpeg-2 in the burning timeline. Then go to the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. There is a little box beside the words 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files'. Make sure that box is ticked (it usually is by default). That way, your already compliant mpeg file will not be re-encoded. Then build your menus and burn. This time you should have audio.

Thanks for your reply. The files I'm using are taken from a digital Mini DV camcorder. The project consist of 3 sub-projects each was rendered to AVI before creating the DVD. I will try to open new project to clear UVS before entering the "Create DVD" menu, and check the 'Do not convert compliant mpeg files' box as you suggested.
Project properties are "Lower Field First" as you mentioned.
What puzzels me is that it does not happens all the time. I manage to burn good DVD's and the next burn will be without audio.

Another question - what should be the video rate and the audio KHz for good DVD quality?

First, just remember to convert the DV to mpeg-2 in the Editor. I got the impression you didn't quite grasp this point when you said that each sub-project was rendered to AVI before creating the DVD. AVI is NOT mpeg-2...

Re your second question, it depends which audio format you choose. LPCM, which is the larger, but excellent quality audio, only comes in one flavour and that is 48000 Hz dual channel stereo. Data rate is fixed and cannot be varied.

If you choose Dolby 5:1 channel, it will be normally with a data rate of 384 kbps. If you instead choose dual channel stereo Dolby AC-3 it will normally use a data rate of 256 kbps. And if you choose mpeg 1 layer 2 audio, it will normally have a bitrate of 224 kbps.
