Catalogue for Video clips? Any suggestions?

Hi,

I want to tidy up and catalogue all the different video clips I have so I can easily reference them - when shot, key characters, location, event etc. - and then search on these factors.

I'm running Windows Vista and thought the 'Tags' option would be the answer to my prayers but I don't seem to be able to access this for my mpeg2 video clips. It works fine for stills but not for movies.

Question: Can anyone a) tell me how to use the 'Tags' option for my video clips or b) tell me how to use some smart catalogue function in VS that I have yet to discover or c) point me to neat 3rd party software that will change my life.

If you are going to go to that kind of trouble then I would probably go the whole hog and shotlist it too like:

Title: Sons B'day
Date of Record: 23/9/2008
Technical details: 16x9, SD, tape# (or where stored, dvd, tape etc)
Summary: Andrew's 5th birthday at our house and all his friends are there

Shot list:

00:00:01- Andrew wakes up from bed
00.04:00- Andrew is dressed by mum

etc etc

With a bit of fiddling you can do this on an Excel spread sheet...or a relational databse like Access or hopefully find a free one (open office have one). on a relational Db you can then search for keyword anywhere in the record.

Ulead has a Photo Explorer application...
Organize & View
Easily collect and add images, video or music clips into a central album for easier access and photo management.

Got all excited but then took a look at the Photo Explorer website - no mention of Vista compatability or working with mpeg files both of which I would need.

Is this software you've worked with?

No I have not used it. Why not download the trial and give it a try?
