Continual Crashes when converting

Post by AndyR »

Hi,

I'm currently using MovieFactory 3 with all the latest patches I can find. I used to use Version 2 and never had any problems but a few months ago I bought version 3 and I wish I never had because of all the problems I have with it.

I have uninstalled and installed from fresh several times and have all the latest patches installed.

Whenever I create a DVD which has a few slideshows of no more than 40 pictures each, no motion menus just a main menu and chapter menu with an mp3 background track I keep getting errors.

When I tell it to output the disc regardless if I say do it straight to CD, or just DVD folders or Image about 17% in when is doing the "Converting
Slideshow Transition Effect"
it crashes with the following error:-

Faulting application dvdmf.exe, version 3.5.0.1, faulting module s2revideoconverter.dll, version 3.5.0.0, fault address 0x0000c329.

Anyone got any ideas as I am fresh out now. I've never know a program to be so unstable!

Regards,

Try TMPGenc DVD Author, about the same price and very stable.

I had a lot of trouble with MF3 crashing also. It would crash often if I had done any editing of the caputred files, even putting in a title. It was very hard to get a successful burn, though sometimes it would be ok (rarely.) However, I've since upgraded to 4.0 and I am no longer having those problems...at least so far. I've also had much less problem with the program converting to the wrong field order as version 3 used to do. I don't know how long you've had version 3, but if you like the program, you might consider upgrading.

I actually downloaded the trial of 4 yesterday but now I get error "4570 Convert step got some problems". I'm on the verge of giving up now and there is no way I'm going to purchase an upgrade.

When I used version 2 it was one I borrowed from a mate to see how it worked and because it was good I bought version 3 that was out and have had nothing but trouble with it. Worst software purchase I ever made!!!

I would agree that version 2 was the best as far as stability. It rarely crashed and always produced pretty good results. I was looking for some additional features when I bought version 3 and was quite disappointed that it didn't offer that much more-- and then had the crashing problem. The only reason I ended up with 4.0 was that I had bought within 30 days of the release of 4.0, (didn't know it was about to be released) and ULead has a policy of upgrading you if you buy less than 30 days before the release of the next version. I do think 4.0 is more stable, at least for me, though I've just started using it and will no doubt find some problems once I use it more.

I'm disappointed that the "Disk Creator" segment can't produce bootable disks, meaning I can't get rid of my old disk writing software. It also eliminated some transitions that I liked. I have lots of suggestions for improvements, including making the slideshow component more user friendly. (The thumbnails after selecting your pictures is way too small and the "arrange" thumbnails (which can be made larger) will not allow for deletes and don't show any info (like dates, etc) which would help in arranging.
