Completed DVDs have mis-sized image.

Post by Sensatus »

In MovieFactory 6, sometimes a completed DVD will not playback in PC software (i.e. MS Media Player or Real), these DVDs are identifiable by the initial menu presenting as about a quarter of the available screen size (not exactly as aspect ratio is slightly compressed left-right). With these DVDs the menu does not work on PC software.

To clarify. Some DVDs play exactly as expected on both PC (Windows) and DVD players. However, sometimes MovieFactory 6 creates DVDs which do not play on a Windows machine.

Conclusion. MF6 works most of the time. There is nothing 'wrong' with my PC set-up (since regular DVDs play fine, and Ulead creates regular DVDs from time-to-time). My DVD players work fine. MF6 sometimes creates a 'dodgy' DVD with consistent misbehaviour. However, I have yet to ascertain how to consistently reproduce the error (I suspect it might creep in if I check/change the output MPEG2 quality parameters).

Questions:

Is this a known issue?

Is it possible to get an existing project to behave correctly?

If I do have to start again, is there anything I can do or avoid to ensure I get a bug-free DVD at the end?

Incidentally, I first tried Corel user support (however, the response was less than confidence building!)...
Thank you very much for your e-mail.

Could you please clarify the questions?

You mean you are unable to play DVDs in your computer?

"This error only occurs 50% of the time. My PC happily plays most DVDs."

I thought you were unable to play DVDs?

"My Daewoo DVD player plays these odd DVDs okay, my Bush one behaves the same as the PC (only just tried)."

What do you mean by your "Bush?"
What "bush?"

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions.

By DVD, do you mean the DVD MENU or the MOVIE is problematic ? I've had misplaced subtitle problems in the movie when using compressed 352 x 288 avi footage. This happened on my stand-alone and WinDVD player

The menu is shown (1/4 size), but the none of the buttons work (this is only on PC player). On my DVD player the menus work and so the movie can be played.
