Hi, I am into my third day of my trial period for UVS 11 and (after some time going backwards and forwards to the user guide have managed to roughly edit a test video with great success.
I previously had Adobe premier elements 2, which now just turns my computer off when I try to start it. I tried everything suggested, including surgically cleaning all Norton products from the computer and installing a trial of the latest version, but got exactly the same problem.
I tried Pinnacle with some success but the video was jerky and useless.
Ulead Video Studio 11 appears to work like a dream and I am sure with more experience it will be much better. BUT; when I try to burn a DVD the "NEXT" button on the first page is grayed out and nothing will make it proceed.
I have just used the work around - opening a new file and iserting my video file - and burned a wonderful DVD which worked perfectly on the TV.

Q. Am I not doing something I should which stops me at the grayed "NEXT button?

It has become almost a mantra with me over the past couple of months to suggest people first go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated June 2008 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular which appear linked to Windows updates. The 'Next' problem seems to be amongst them.

Note that DirectX is not included in the usual pattern of Windows automatic updates. It has to be done every so often by the user manually. So unless you have recently done this, you are probably still using the original, non-updated version of DirectX which came with your computer.

The next button WILL remain greyed out until such time as you have a video for the module to work with. This is why it was no longer greyed out when you imported one.

Technically you can open VideoStudio Editor, import a video, edit it and then go to the share tab and select create disc. Here you are carrying the video over from one module to the next and the button you mention will not be greyed out because it has a "VideoStudio Project file" to work with.
From a practical point we have found that it is normally safer to not do it that way but instead go to the share tab and select create video. Then create a PAL DVD or NTSC DVD (or if you know how to set your own bit rates use the custom MPEG2 option). Following this start a new empty VideoStudio project and go directly to the share tab and select create disc.

At this point the button you mention will be greyed out (VideoStudio has nothing to work upon) now use the import video button and import that newly created Video from above and the button will no longer be greyed out.

Ken, thanks for your response. I should have mentioned that I went carefully (because of all the problems I have had with Adobe Prem. Elements) through the install requirements of VS 11. I updated my DirectX and one other requirement but could not get another one to do anything. I cannot remember what these last two were now.
Because of that I do not think Directx is the problem. It could be the one that I could not get to work though.

sjj1805, Thanks for your response. I did have my video showing so I assumed the module had something to work with but the grayed Next button did nothing. I really had no trouble when I opened a new project, imported my video which then gave me access to the NEXT button and it was smooth sailing from then on.

It is just that I should not have to do it that way and wonder if I did something wrong or missed cue somewhere.

You're welcome Ken, I try to keep up to date on of the software installed on my computer.

I think I spend more time looking for updates for my programs than using them, LOL.
