VideoStudio 10 SE???

Post by klingon_master »

I had purchased VideoStudio 10 SE. I wonder whats the difference between the different versions of VideoStudio 10 Plus, 10 and 10 SE. Does 10 SE still have the blue, green and white screen effects? Is there a big difference between the 3? Does the SE version support MPEG4 or MP4V files? Do I have to install special codecs or not? I already have Sony Vegas 8 which can edit those files so its not a big deal if this program can not edit those.

Welcome to the forums,

What hardware was your VS10SE bundled with? SE versions are Special or Simple Editions that are included free with some type of hardware, generally video cards or capture devices. The SE versions can be tweaked by the hardware vendor, to work specially with their product. SE versions are like TBYB (Try Before You Buy) or trial versions, however do not expire like the trial version. Most of the time the SE version does qualify for special upgrade prices. SPs (service packs), patches, fixes will not install to SE versions.

VS10 (no plus) is a full version. It does not have all the "bells and whistles" as the Plus version. It will only have 1 overlay track, will not support the Hi-Def, or Blu-Ray formats.

VS10+ (Plus) has 6-overlay tracks, and also supports the Hi-Def formats, and probably has more templates included.

The current version is VS11, VS11+. However the next version is due to be released very shortly, making VS10 an older, "phased-out" product.

I hope you did not purchase your VS10SE from Ebay. They are to be bundled with hardware, and not sold separately.

You go on ebay and you get Ulead Videostudio 10 SE by itself for around $10 not including the $4 in shipping. I know its not the regular version or the plus version so it doesn't have all those bells and whistles. It's like many other oem products you can buy on the internet from websites. You just get the OEM software and at much cheaper price than buying the regular software. Just was wanting to know some of what they left out in the oem version of Videostudio 10 vs. the other versions.

There are different SE versions. Some can burn a DVD, some can't. I would suspect that a SE version would not have multiple overlay tracks.

As Ron stated, most SE versions are tweaked by the manufacturer of the hardware they are bundled with to work specifically with that hardware, so don't be surprised if you have problems.

Also, you will not be able to apply any updates to an SE version. Do you run Vista? If so you will probably have problems because v10 needs a patch to run on Vista.

No I don't go on Ebay and get any software. It's just way too risky...;)

SE Versions (Official term is Standard Edition) are FREEBIES that are GIVEN AWAY with an item of hardware such as a camcorder, digital camera or scanner - they are also sometimes GIVEN AWAY on the cover CD of a computer magazine. They can also be part of the included FREE software on a new computer. SE versions are not SOLD. You should avoid PURCHASING them because you are being ripped off.

I take it VideoStudio 10 is Vista compatible right? Does that go for all versions including the oem versions? I have XP right now so its not a problem but just wondering. It doesn't matter so much I'm not getting the full version I already have Sony Vegas 8 and Magix Movie Edit Pro 11. I'm jusy interested in trying other video editors out there to see what the difference is. How many title templates does VideoStudio 10 have? I have an OEM version of Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and that has at least 60 title templates which is a lot. Much more if you compare around 15 or so offered with VideoStudio. or Vegas and Movie Edit Pro 11 which only offer around 5.

VS10 was written well before Vista appeared. It was never fully compatible with Vista, and as Black Lab has pointed out, needs a patch to make it work under Vista. Unfortunately, the patch only works on full versions of VS10, and not SE versions, as far as I am aware.

As far as title templates, VS10, full version, like VS11, has 60 or more templates. (I just did a quick count in VS11 and found 68. IIRC, it was around the same, or just a slight bit less with VS10.) But again, that is the full version, and not the SE version. I have no idea how many it would have, but 15 would sound about right. It is, after all, a Simple Edition or Special Edition...

Can VideoStudio 10 SE edit MPEG 4 files? or since this is a SE version it won't work. Got the Program and Installed it. My MPEG4 files which come up as MP4V files on my computer don't work. The MP4V won't work in the software. Files from my older Kodak camera that come up as MOV files won't work either. Only my AVI files from my Canon Camera will work. What do I expect cause this is the stripped down version of the software.
