Hi I am trying to find out how I can save pictures without the back ground in psp 2x. I have set the back ground to transparent and saved it as a png file but the back ground is still there.
I have also exported the PNG optimizer
set the transparency tap to Alpha Channel Transparancy
and checked existing image or layer transparancy.
Please help!

Thats kinda odd. PNG really is the best choice if you're trying to save images with alpha blended transparency. So long as you see those checker-board patterns on the background before you save, everything should be fine. Transparency is handled properly regardless of PNG encoding choices and color depth - even in grayscale it should work fine.
One thing worth noting is that although PSP will save correct alpha values into PNGs, not all other programs will necessarily understand and be able to use that. Notably, various Internet Explorer versions have problems handling transparency.
Obviously, any PNG image with transparency should still have that transparency when you load it back up in PSP though... which I guess is where you've having the problem?
If you're using palette-based transparency (ie you've used the Image->Palette->Set Palette Transparency menu option) then you won't necessarily see that transparency when you re-load the image until you do Image->Palette->View Palette Transparency.
Sorry I can't be more help. Is there anything extra you can say about what you've tried or what results you're getting?

Would you be able to post a copy somewhere of one of the PNG's that you've created? Or you can email me a copy to corel02.2.psptim@xoxy.net.
