File Extension Question

Post by writingjulie »

My husband recently bought Canon HG10, which comes with Corel's ULEAD DVD Movie Factory. After we've edited and saved the video we've shot, the file extension for saved movies is .dwz.

I can't seem to upload any of these videos anywhere: to YouTube, to my own website, etc. How do I change the file extension to .wav or .wmv so that it's recognizable to these types of sites?

As you can likely tell, I'm not particularly tech adept, so the more simplified the response, the better.

Thanks.

You'll need to use the Export feature (if your version of Movie Factory has that feature). Sorry, I can't give you the step-by-step instructions, because I've never done that with Movie Factory.... Movie Factory is mainly intended for making DVDs (and other "shiny discs").

The .DWZ file is not actually video. It's the "instruction file" that tells Movie Factory how to edit and render your project.

Also, Movie Factory (apparently) can't make a WMV file, but there are other choices that might work. Whatever format you choose, the file size is determined by the bitrate (and the playing time).

The YouTube website says:
YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG transferred from most digital cameras, camcorders, and cell phones.

If you don't think your current video file format is recognized by YouTube, you may get the best results from converting your file to MPEG4 video with MP3 audio.
If you can't get the "correct" format out of Movie Factory, SUPER is a FREE universal audio/video conversion program that can probably help.

In the Add Media window, import a clip to the time line, then do the editing you want and to save video you have choose Export Selected Clips and choose which format you want to save the video as.

Remember the folder and file type you saved the file to.
