In some scenes I have a little sign in the middle (like a little window). What does it mean? Those scenes doe have a lot of noise in the picture which I don't understand because the other 'normal' scenes doesn't have this. Does anybody know what it is?
Thanks for any help

Hi Rolf

I think you are seeing the small icon indicating that the clip has had a Video Filter applied.

Select the clip then select the ¡¥Attributes¡¦ tab to view the filter/s

Hello Trevor,

thanks very much for your suggestion but in the meantime I found out that it is not a Filter but the Smart Proxy item. So when you (ever) switched on for the Smart Proxy this little icon appears.
Maybe it is helpful for other video freaks to know this. Because when you burn afterwards the quality turn down dramatically, so you don't have anymore a full HD quality. In other words before burning switch out the Smart Proxy in all items.
Thanks again Trevor and have a fine evening

No, the proxy files doesn't affect the final video. They are only used for the playback window.

Hi meloman,
thanks for your reaction but I dosn't agree with you.
It is strange yes, because in the manual they say the same but I do have now the experience. I burned quite a long video (1 h 25 min) on blue-ray and a part of it was very bad quality (noise/snow). I was very astonished because the original was good. After quite long studies I discovered this little icon exactly in this bad part. After switch off the thing I burned again during last night and the result is 100 % good. So my conclusion must be that the Smart Proxy thing was the wrongdoer. Apart of the Smart Proxy I changed not a thing.

You never actually said what type of high def video you were using. Is it HDV or AVCHD? Looking at your System details (thanks for filling that in), I would say you would not need to use SmartProxy even with AVCHD -- though it might make playback previews while editing much smoother.

But can you confirm what you were actually doing with SmartProxy? And did you apply the edits made while in SmartProxy to your high definition files (which is what it is all about). It sounds as though somehow or other you included some of the proxy standard definition files created by SmartProxy in your Blu-Ray project, rather than applying the editing done while in SmartProxy to the high definition original clips.

Good evening Ken,
thks for yr reaction.
So far as I know I am using HDV (camcorder specs says MPEG2 TS), so it must be HDV I suppose.
As you wrote maybe before in this panel I am quite a new user with Corel VS. So I tried several times what effect the SmartProxy will give during editing.
I don't understand exactly your last question: "It sounds as though somehow ... etc" (please be patient with me, my English is not so good).
Anyway I don't think that I included something into the project. I worked as follows. I copied all files from the backup to my HD, separated the whole video in six parts (total of 7 hours video from the last vacation), then I edited part for part and made it shorter to be sure that finally I could burn it. Also I added background music and some effects. So at this moment I do have a video of 1,5 hour (1 h 25 min) (half of the whole vacation), for trying sometimes I used SmartProxy but there was absolutely no effect I found. After all this I burned the outcome on blue-ray.
My opinion is (and maybe I am not right) that the program (VS) can't handle very smoothly editing because it seems to me that my machine with three separate processors can easy handle editing. When I am busy the processors are only used for maximum 30 / 35 %
Best regards to Canberra

That's weird, because I always use smart proxy because my PC is not very fast and I never experience a degradation in quality. I don't shoot in HD, I only have a cheap JVC cam and a cheap Samsung TV, but the results are good. Maybe it's a bug in the software?

Yes that's right it is very weird. But I can follow your thoughts, maybe it is a bug in the software. This morning I tested again with a small try and have had the same result. Good without smart proxy and with a lot of snow when I switeched on proxy.
However, maybe one day the Corel makers will check it :D

You are right. I experienced the same bug today. I think it may be the Mpeg Optimizer that's causing the problem. My camera record in 16:9, but since I still have an old 4:3 TV, I used to render my DVD in 4:3. So VideoStudio render all the project and the quality is good.

But today I decided to render my project in 16:9 and the Mpeg Optimizer said it would only render 15% of the project and keep 85% of the original files. All parts that comes from the original files are ok. But all parts that have been rendered are very poor in quality. It looks like the Mpeg Optimizer mistakenly took the proxy files to render the final movie. I moved my proxy files in another directory and tried again. This time the final movie was ok. I really think this is a bug in VideoStudio.

Interesting.

So this can be investigated further can anyone having this problem where VideoStudio appears to be rendering the proxy file rather than the actual file, please provide the following information.

1. The Version of VideoStudio being used e.g. VS11+ VS11.5+ VSX2
2. Please list all patches/updates that have been installed relating to that version of VideoStudio.
3. Details of the source files.
a. Where did they originate (camcorder, internet, TV card etc)
b. How did they get onto your hard drive (download, firewire, USB cable etc.)
c. Type of video e.g. MPEG2, DV, DivX, MPEG4 etc
d. Video data rate
e. Type of audio e.g. LPCM, AC3, MP3 etc
f. Audio data rate
4. Project Settings
5. PAL or NTSC
6. Did this error occur at the SHARE - Create Video Step
OR have you gone directly to the SHARE - Create Disc Step
(In other words you have a VSP file in the Create Disc Step)

Thank you.

And roxy settings...I just discovered mine was by default it seems, is set to anything above 480X340 or something like that...which is small, or means anything I add will generate a proxy file. So I had to set it higher.

I'm not into hidef footage as yet so can;t experiment with this issue

Wow sjj1805, what a story.
But I will try to answer it correctly and by the way I am very surprised that your forum give so much attention to the users. Thanks!
Your questions, my answers:
1. version 11.5
2. never installed updates or patches until now (only from ver 11.00 to 11.5 when I bought the software in a shop) now I have exactly 11.5.0157.1 Plus
3. source file is a TOD file from the JVC camcorder Everio
a. camcorder
b. firewire doesn¡¦t work with this camera type only in low quality, but if you shot full HD quality you have to capture via USB, so I did
c. MPEG2, so far as I know
d. Possibly I don¡¦t understand exactly this expression, but I used blue-ray disc with a rate of 25 GB; in the meantime I wiped the original because my first disc is burned and ready on blue-ray; anyway the video is 1 h and 26 minutes long (was this your question?) When I click on properties of a frame I get the following info: PAL HDMV, MPEG-2, 24 bits, 1920x1080, 16:9, 25.000 frames/sec, variable bit speed of max 28000 kbps
e. the background music I captured from CD¡¦s and I suppose that VS is creating MP3 isn¡¦t it?
f. properties says: MPEG Audio Layer 2, 48000 Hz, 16 bit, Stereo, bitspeed 384 kbps (obviously in practice my stereo set worked in 5.1 surround so the information here is not complete I suppose. I switched on in VS the possibilty to capture 5.1 surround and obviously it works)
4. project settings, what do you mean by this exactly?
5. PAL
6. There was never a error announcement so far as I know. When I am ready with the whole process I go directly to SHARE, CREATE DISC and choose for BLUE-RAY. Must I go first to the Create Video Step?

Finally: I said it before I think, in my opinion the manual is very poor and does not explain very good all possibilities e.g. what to do step by step. The manual from e.g. Pinnacle in contrary is very good, complete and self explaining. On the other side ¡Vand this of course is the most important point- VS works perfect and the result is really fantastic. (Which I can't say in Pinnacle). My first video of our last vacation is now ready and burned on blue-ray and we looked at it some times with friends on a full-HD TV set (Panasonic) and everybody is just enthusiast and delighted. So my opinion is VS is the best program in town for TOD files from JVC and it is very, very faint of JVC AND the salesman in this photo shop (City Foto in the Netherlands) were I bought the camera not referring to this specific problem. Let¡¦s being honest, we (amateurs) are investing a lot of money to get a nearly perfect result of our video¡¦s and then it is extremely disappointing when you get home and discover that this is not working and that is not working. Therefore my absolute compliments are going to Ulead VS that they are so quick in the market after the appearance of this new type of camcorder with a working software.
But¡K.the bug must be repaired I think.
Thanks again for all your attention sjj1805 I am delighted to discuss about our hobby.
Best regards to UK and have a nice day
Rolf

Well, I am still not sure what is causing your problem, but still believe it is because in some way or another, you are using the low quality proxy files, without the editing having been applied to the original HDV files.

But the answer is obvious -- you don't need to use SmartProxy anyway with your computer. I have only ever used it on my computer just to see how it works, but normally I just don't use it.

I do see one small problem with your set-up. You have version 11.5.0157.1 when it should be 11.5.0157.2. This means you did not add the update patch dated 7 November 2007 which fixed some problems relating to high definition video. So install that patch and see if it fixes your problem.
