Does VS 11.5 Plus installation require internet connection?

I have just built a dedicated video editing Vista x64 PC that will not be internet connected so I don't have to install anti-virus and other software. Just want it to be a pure video editing PC.

Before I buy VideoStudio 11.5 Plus, can someone tell me if installation or activation of the software will require the PC to be internet-connected? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums,

No, VS does not require an internet connection to install or use..

Thanks for the welcome and the answer. Based on that I plan to order VS 11.5+ at Amazon where they currently have a low price ($50).

I saw another post that provided instructions for the Amazon version whereby you have to apply some updates and patches to the software provided in the box in order to get to the current version. Hopefully the patches are downloadable to my internet-connected PC so I can transfer them to the editing PC via a USB flash drive.

(In my original question I should have also asked if VS updates and patches are always a downloadable file, as opposed to being applied directly via the internet, like Microsoft does with Windows updates.)

Yes they are completely downloadable files, which also means you can back them up to CD in case you have to completely reinstall VS at some future time.

Note that the 'Power Pack' upgrade (7 November 2007) requires you first to register your installed version of VS11+ (which is what you get first). So you will need Corel/Ulead account details when you download on a separate computer.

Thanks, that's good news. I'm going to order the software as soon as I finish this message. I'm looking forward to using the software and participating in this forum.

Oh dear! I hope you realise that though we have no precise date, we are expecting that the release of VS12 is imminent and it could be better to wait!

I read about v12 but didn't realize it was that close to being available.

I already ordered v11.5+ from Amazon last night. Guess I'll have to return it, or go ahead and install it and buy the upgrade when it comes out.

Some companies provide free version upgrades for recent purchases, such as within the last 30 days. Does Ulead do that (even if the purchase is not directly from them)?

Ulead used to have a refund/upgrade policy for older versions purchased shortly before or after the release of a new version, but Corel is now the new owner of Ulead, so who knows. A call to Customer Support would be needed.

50$ ??? I paid 100$ a month ago! :x
Even on Corel's website it's not that low, it's 90$.
How can Amazon sell it for less than Corel!?

I saw something about Amazon's version in another thread in this forum. If I understood it right, the box Amazon sends says it is v11.5+, but the disc inside is an older version (11 or 11.5?). You have to apply the updates from Ulead's website to get it up to the current version.

Amazon's description says "Amazon.com Exclusive". I called Ulead's customer service to ask what is exclusive about it, and asked whether it is different from what Ulead sells directly. The CSR was not aware of any special Amazon version and suggested that I call Amazon to ask them about it. I called Amazon and they suggested I call Ulead.

I did notice on Ulead's site that the product description says it includes a bonus copy of WinDVD. In Amazon's product description, there is no mention of WinDVD being included.

I'll know more Thursday when it is delivered.

It's the same thing with the box Corel sells. It's 11 Plus, and you apply the free patch to upgrade it to 11.5 Plus.

I guess the only thing exclusive to Amazon is the low price!
