splitting a mono audio track into left and right channels.

Hi,
I have Ulead Video Studio 8. The camera my video was recorded on was in mono, therefore only plays in the left channel and on the left speaker.
How do I split this mono track so that it also plays on the right channel and so on both speakers?
I do realize there will be no true separation. I simply want to hear it on both speakers instead of one.
I really appreciate any help with this!

Welcome to the forums,
Sadly what you really need was not implemented until the next version, VS9. It's called
Duplicate audio channel.
With VS8 you can Split the audio from the video track, and then unmute the audio on the video track. Here's the problem that I find. When you change the balance on one, it changes it on the other.
You could try exporting your audio (share>Create Sound File). Then using
AUDACITY, a free open source utility for recording and editing sounds, create your faux stereo file.

Hi
You may be best to use Audacity, but this was written a long time ago
and should work with VS 8
The information was written with VS 8 in mind.
Later Video studio versions 9 / 10 have means to 'Duplicate the Audio Channels'
For VS 8
The procedure will remove the sound from the right audio channel to produce a mono effect.
Completing the second part will re-create a stereo clip.
This is for Mpeg / Dvd files
Part 1
Start a new project
From File / Preferences 'tick' 'Show messages when inserting first video into¡K¡K'
This should ensure your project properties match your clip properties.
Insert clip to time line. ( select YES from the info window )
Save project.
Switch the timeline to Audio View.
Play your clip and you will see the volume level indicators flicker, left and right channels.
To remove the right channel:-
File / Project Properties /Edit / compression tab /
Audio Format------Mpeg Audio
Audio Type--------Mono
Click ok
Playing the clip now will show only the Left Channel.
Make a new video file:-
From Share / Create Video File / Same as Project Settings
This will make a new clip to the same properties as the old but in mono.
A thumbnail will be placed in the library.
Start a new project and drag the thumbnail to the timeline.
Play the clip to test the sound.
Stereo:-
If you wish to have the audio play in both channels, edit the Project Properties
File / Project Properties /Edit / compression tab /
Audio Format------Mpeg Audio
Audio Type--------Stereo
Click ok
Make a new video file:-
From Share / Create Video File / Same as Project Settings
As mentioned earlier the process is for earlier versions of Video Studio.
Using VS 9 provides a means of duplicating the audio tracks.
Changing the Timeline to Audio View allows access to this option.
For VS 10 also click the 'Attributes tab'
