No sound on DVD - but only when burning the whole project

Post by citizenpb »

This is a strange one - when I burn my whole project it all proceeds OK without any error messages but the final DVD has no audio. If I burn the whole project minus the final frame then the final DVD does have audio. It only happens for one particular project and I guess there's an easy work around for it, but I'm very curious to know what the cause might be since there is nothing unusual about the final frame - it's just the final frame of a plain black background. Has anybody experienced anything similar? (I'm using version 11 plus on XP and my videos are avi files, 640*480, and the audio is a number of wav files if that helps.)

Out of the approximately 800 different types of ".avi" file which one do you have?
Right click on one from within VS and post the properties here.
Most likely it is a highly compressed file and has some kind of minimal corruption at the end causing the problem with editing but also, most likely, does not present as a problem for playback by itself.

I'm afraid we will need a bit more information than that... Right click on the avi files in Video Studio and copy all their properties here please. AVI is merely a wrapper extension, and over 800 different types of video use it. The fact that the frame size is 640 x 480, which is not part of the international DVD standard, is both an indication that the video is probably one of the difficult formats like DivX or XVid, and also possibly an indication of where your problem lies.

A clear idea of your exact workflow would also be essential e.g. do you put the video in the timeline, do your edits, and jump immediately to the burning module? If that is the case, then the problem of using non-DVD standard video would be exacerbated. Or do you edit then, as we suggest you should, go to Share > Create Video File > DVD, and convert what is not DVD-compliant video into compliant mpeg-2?

Thanks for yout input guys but I'm not going to pursue this one since I will encode the project first and then burn in a separate step - this works perfectly. I don't think there's anything wrong with the video or audio files as I can encode to mpeg OK and can also burn the project direct to DVD if I just miss out the final frame. It isn't a problem with the final frame itself as the problem still occurs with a different final frame (after I remove some of the video and audio at the end). It might be the project itself that is somehow corrupted. It would be interesting to know why it happens but it's not worth wasting your time when I have an easy workaround. Thanks again.
