Post by MasterOfHyrule1 »

For some reason every time I try and save the movie as mpg, it crashes on me. Here's the error report:

Updated my profile...

The version I was using of Ulead was 10 plus. Forgot to mention that.

Sorry, but that link doesn't just ask you to update your profile -- though thanks for having done so!

The information we need is where the video came from, what devices were used to capture it, what workflow you followed in editing it, what steps you were taking to 'save' it as an mpg, what sort of mpg? To name just a few central ones... Right click on one of the source files in Video Studio, either in the timeline or library window, and copy all its Properties here too, please. And do that for other files if they are from different sources...

It's actually for any video I try to save as mpg. Even the sample of the woman with the camera walking up to the screen.

What happens is I save it as mpg, it looks like it's processing then it hits 99% then crashes.

Was trying to save it as NTSC MPEG1 (352x240 ,29.97fps)

I think it's the dll file which needs to be replace or it's missing it...

OK. We're may be getting somewhere, if a little slowly! Are you only trying to convert to mpeg-1? If so, and the codec is somehow or other missing, I am afraid it is not a Video Studio problem as such. The mpeg-1 codec used by Video Studio (and other programs) is in fact installed as part of Windows... So to get that back, you would need to 'fix' Windows, or do a Google search to see if you can find one on the net. I am NOT recommending installing a mega-codec pack with all the codecs its contains as that more often than not causes more problems than it is worth in conflicts. (You haven't recently installed such a pack, have you??? ) But you might find the relevant codec in such a pack, and can choose just that one to install.

Can you also tell us the exact steps you took to 'save' the video as mpeg...

And perhaps also why you are trying to convert to mpeg-1...

I have installed the k-lite codec pack but I had it in the past and Ulead worked before. I did find the dll for the mepg1 that showed up in the error report but have no idea where to place it.

All I do is Open Ulead, then video editor, put the sample in the timeline, share, select mpeg1, then save it. It looks like it working then at 99% it crashes.

I make videos for youtube and sometimes I need mpeg for youtube because with wmv when it's uploaded, it cuts off the end credits which is annoying.

Hmmm. I've just done a search of my computer, and the only version of mpgmux.dll I could find was in my c:\Program Files\Main Concept\Eve directory (Eve is a Main Concept editing program Easy Video Editing). The file in question is a multiplexer, and it seems strange that it has any effect at all on Video Studio or on the mpeg-1 codec at all. A multiplexer is usually associated with joining video and audio streams together on a DVD. (I was in any case under the impression that the mpeg codecs used by Windows and VS were licensed from Main Concept anyway.) It is not located in any of my Ulead/Corel applications.

Have you done a search of your computer to see where the file is located. I mean whether there is a version of it apart from the one you found in the K-Lite codec pack...

My inclination would be to try removing that file from wherever it may be. Back it up, of course -- perhaps on an external drive or USB stick -- just in case you need to restore it. Then try rendering your mpeg-1 again.

I fixed it!

It seems the dll was broken so I replaced it with the one I found on the internet.

I just replaced it in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG
I found out I can't save in mpeg2 but I never use that (it broke too).

Mpeg-2 is an absolutely central codec for anyone doing video editing who hopes to burn a DVD. I realise you may not be doing that right now, but when you do you absolutely need mpeg-2 since that is what the video on a video DVD is...

So I would be asking myself: what did I install on my computer which may have broken these mpeg-related codecs and filters? And a simple reinstall of VS should reinstall the broken mpeg-2 codec at least as that codec at least does come with VS...
