The perpetual crash problem , VS 12 and more RAM

I am at a loss !
I have defragged both my C and E drives , used disc cleanup , run VS 11 in High Priority as per Steve Jones , disconnect from Broadband , close down my Bullguard Security & Skype software and I STILL get constant crashes !!
When I look at Windows Task Manager/Processes it indicates 0 to 2% CPU usage.
Will increasing my 0.5MB RAM to 2 RAM do any good ?
Does anyone know if Corel has addressed this galling aspect of the software ?

I'm sure you mean 0.5 gig of ram? And are you sure you only have 0.5? If it is, I would at least have 1 gig to 2 gig, depending on if you are editing avi or hdv. I'm not sure it will clear up your crashing though.

What OS are you running?
When you say you are running VS in high priority do you mean via an editing profile, because if that's the case you shouldn't have to close down or disconnect anything. That should all be done via the profile.

Sorry , Videoguy ! Yes , it is 512 MB ....
.... and my OS is Windows XP and I am not using a video profile but have set VS to High Priority in Task Manager.

My gut feeling is that adding that little extra bit of ram won't resolve your crashing problem...it's bound to be something else.
Are the crashes random or when performing something specific?

You also need to tell us the properties of the video you are using and information such as its sources and devices used to capture it.

Have you updated your DirectX? Though the version number stays the same, there are still a lot of updates on DirectX. Updating DirectX solved VS crashes for me in the past.

Oh and BTW I would definately get some more RAM if I were you... and not just for VS, but for system performance and stability in general.

I am not sure what you mean by "properties of the video" , Ken but I am working with video from my Panasonic NVGS150 digital video camera and captured using WinDV.
The problems are always during editing and in particular when using the Audio View of VS11 and moving the cursor back and forward so as to accurately locate the point at which I want to cut the clip.
However , I have taken Mdekker's advice and updated Microsoft DirectX and guess what , I SEEMS to have made a big difference. I have just tried the system on a particular clip in the Audio view , back and forth with the cursor for a little while and it hasn't crashed once ! It was crashing regularly before ! Thanks for that , Mdekker !
I will keep the forum posted on future observations.

From a clip in your library or on the timeline, right click on it to view it's properties.
BTW, glad things seem to be sorted out.

Run a Program in High Priority
However - terry could try
creating a video editing profile if he has not already done so.
