DVD Authoring with MSP8

Post by Mike-Mat »

I bought Charlie Hills book (getting results with MSP8) and he talks about using DVD Movie Factory (Page 84) to author movies to DVD.

Is DVD Movie Factory part of MSP8? I cant find it!

Is there something in MSP8 for authoring?

I assumed this was a complete package like VS10/VS11. I could author in those packages.

Thanks in advance,

No, and no.

DVD Movie Factory is a separate program, and is a more robust authoring tool than what comes with VideoStudio.

As is the case with most higher-end video editors, MSP is just an editor and does not contain an authoring tool.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply. I don't mean to argue with you... but I just talked to Charlie and did a little searching on my own. It seems DVD Movie Factory is included, although it's not the latest version and they just don't make it very obvious or easy to get to.

The Export - DVD option takes you into DVD Movie Factory.

But if you look in the directory structure... Inside the MediaStudio folder, you'll find another folder called DVD Authoring. If you look at the .exe's, you'll find DVDMF.exe I created a shortcut to the Desktop. Sure enough, if you start it, you'll get DVD Movie Factory.

What can you tell me about the latest version?
Is it worth the extra money?

When you purchase MediaStudio Pro 8 you are also provided with a "SE" version of DVD MovieFactory 4. It is not a full version - but then it doesn't need to be because you will have already done your editing and created an MPEG2 file for it from MediaStudio 8.

For completeness - Users of MediaStudio Pro 7 were given a SE copy of MovieFactory 2.

The current worldwide copy of MovieFactory is 6, However some regions have 7 so I would hang on a short while until 7 is available in your area.

Well, as I said, and as Steve clarified even further, DVD MF is a separate program.

What I should have said was MSP does not have an authoring tool built into it, like VS does.
