This is my first time trying to convert my 8mm movies to dvd. I'm using an ADS DVD Express to capture the video. My video camera/player is connected to it with RCA cables, and it's connected to my pc through USB 2.0. I'm able to capture video and it saves as an mpeg file. I can watch it using Windows Media Player. But I can't add it to a new project so that I can edit it. The program freezes and I get a "not responding " error. This happens not only with MF3 but also with Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 and Muvee autoProducer 3.1 - CE. Are these programs conflicting with each other? Should I uninstall 2 of them? Is the video being saved in the wrong format and causing these programs to crash?
I have a decent pc:
AMD Athlon xp 2600
1GB of RAM (I just added a 512 MB stick)
ATI Radeon 9600XT
50GB of free space on hard drive 1
Win XP SP1
Thanks for any ideas.
Movie Factory 3 freezes when adding media to new project.

Still Hanging
I've uninstalled Roxio and everything else I could think of-no help. I've tried stopping all uneeded services, processes, anti-virus etc., and still can't edit w/o program hanging. Is their another format I can use? I want to burn it to dvd to give to family so they can watch it on their own dvd players

Problem solved! I stopped unneeded services, processes and anti-virus. I noticed that cpu usage flat-lined at 100% whenever I opened any editing software-even before I tried to open an mpeg file! So I moved a couple of mpegs to my back-up drive and tried to edit them with Movie Factory again and it ran without a hitch. I'm editing and adding effects and having a blast. Thanks to everyone for your help.
