Welcome to the forums,

Can you give us the exact model of your Sony, please? If it is a mini DV tape model, then you should not be using the Dazzle to capture from it. Instead, you should be using the camera's firewire connection (called i-Link by Sony), and for that you need both a firewire cable and a firewire card in your computer.

No, that is an older analogue model, well before Firewire was developed. And yes, you need a device like the Dazzle to capture from it. But did the Dazzle come with any software? It used to come with an older version of Video Studio which may have been tweaked to work with it, whereas a newer version of Video Studio won't be able to capture from it. So we need to know what version of VS you are currently using and what software the Dazzle came with.

VS changed their capture plug-in (to conform to Vista) and it has caused problems for some people. If you can capture with v10 then do that, then open v11 and simply import the clips.

With what are you capturing and to which format are you attempting to capture to?

Mini-DV camcorders should be equipped with Firewire. This is basically a real-time transfer of data. Have you checked to make sure the connections are all secure? Does Windows (and which Win OS) recognize your camcorder being connected and turned on?

One main difference between VS10 and 11 is the capture plug-in. VS10 used the VFW/DS while VS11 uses Intervideo's creation of IVI, which still allows DV transfer via Firewire.

Have you recently updated DirectX? Go HERE and download the latest MS Direct-X drivers. The most current is dated June, 2008.

Please complete your System Information in your profile. Clicking on this button -->Image will take you to a short tutorial, explaining how to find and complete that information. This way it will always be available, and will save you from retyping it in the future.

Still getting same problem. I am attempting to capture to AVI format using Firewire. I am using Vista SP1. I was able to capture using another program so my connections should be fine. I just updated MS DirectX drivers. I also updated profile.

Then you might try BlackLab's suggestion of using VS10 to capture, or Try using the free capture utility called WinDV. It works with Firewire only, and captures DV. Several of us use it over VS or MSP capture.
