I take high quality photos for web use and process in PSP X. However I sometimes need to output the images at 300dpi for print use but cannot find anywhere in PSP how to do this - can somebody help me urgently please!?

Hiya,

The main image resize dialog will let you change the DPI without rescaling the image.

Go to the menu -> Image -> Resize Image.

You may need to put a check in "Advanced Settings" so that you can see the extra gubbins beneath. Once that's there, removing the check from "Resample Using" will mean that any changes you make in the "Resolution" box at the top will not change any pixels in your image - it'll just set the physical dimensions.

So, if you've got a decent high-res image but it prints at the wrong size, this'll fix it. You can turn off "Resample Using" and either pop the physical dimensions you want into the fields at the top of the dialog or specify a particular resolution in DPI/DPcm or such.

Hi Alli,

Many thanks for your suggestion - but in my version of PSP-X on the Image ->resize menu there is no 'advanced settings' tab.

The only options I have on this menu are for physical resizing of the image with no resampling or resolution options at all ...

Any other possibilities at all?

Oo, okeydokey, are you using a fairly old PSP, like version 6, 7 or thereabouts? The older versions of PSP (before version 8, I think) have a resize box that looks kinda like this:

Image

If thats what you're seeing then you should just be able to pop your desired print resolution in the highlighted box there. PSP won't alter your image when you do that - it'll just set the resolution it should be printed at.

If its a newer version of PSP you have, the resize box should look a bit more like this:

Image

Thats a piccie from PSP-X2, it was certainly almost identical in PSP-X and X1. Going back through version 8 and 9 though, I'm not so sure and I unfortunately don't have a copy around to play with anymore. I think they looked fairly similar though.

That pic shows what I meant by the "advanced settings" and "resample using" checkboxes. The highlighted box is where you'd enter the new print resolution for your image.

Now, it sounds like you don't see exactly the same, but I'm hoping its kinda similar to either one or the other of those pics? ;-)

Oh and actually, I should point out that in pretty much any version of PSP, there are probably two similar options there on the Image menu, one called "Resize" and the other one called "Canvas Size". Its definitely "Resize" that you want if you're looking for print resolution settings, and not "Canvas Size".

Hi Alli,

Once again many thanks for your efforts on my behalf.

Actually my screens don't look anything like your images below and I checked my version which only told me August 2005 Build.

Anyway I'm pleased to tell you that I've now found a way to do want I need - so problem solved.

Thanks again, NMJ.
