Unable to switch to capture mode

Post by kintesh »

hello,

i am using Panasonic NV-GS27 Camcorder. and videostudio 11.

when i try to capture video from camcorder to pc it gives me error:

Unable to switch to capture mode
Check if your video driver is working properly
[15023:4:2]

also i the camcorder dose not need video driver as Panaconic did not supply CD or USB cable with camera.

the driver works fine when i capture video from camcorder to pc using Windows Movie Maker.

Welcome to the forums!

How do you capture using Windows Movie Maker??? I mean, what do you used for the connection to your computer?

Your camera is a mini DV model, and with such a camera, the only way of capturing high quality DV is by using firewire. The only problem is that no camera manufacturer of which I am aware ever includes a firewire cable in the bundle. In that sense I am surprised that you did not get a USB cable, as this is what is normally supplied even though it then gives the user the wrong idea that this is what is to be used.

Your camera will definitely have a small, 4 pin Firewire socket -- your manual might call it either an i-Link or IEEE1394 socket. If your computer does not have one, then the good news is that Firewire cards are cheap and easy to install in a spare AGP slot. Make sure you get the correct cable with it -- one with a 4 pin plug for the camera end and a larger 6 pin plug for the computer end. And once you get it set up, you should be very pleased with the quality of the capture/

camera is a mini DV model.
camera has Firewire socket and USB mini B socket (i dont want to bye Firewire cable as i got the usb cable)

i use USB Mini B Cable to connect camcorder to pc. than use windows movie maker and set camcorder to play mode and play it on camera ans record on windows movie maker.

what i was saying that can u record on videostudio from webcam like the same way you do in windows movie player (set camrea to play mode and record on videostudio using USB cable)

if you can please tell me how to do it.

i was looking for video capture and edting software and i found ur videostudio 11, i thought that it must work as the same way as windows movie player, but in high quality.

thanks.

I *have* already told you. You do it with Firewire, NOT repeat NOT the USB connection. If you don't have a firewire cable, buy one. If you don't have a Firewire card in your computer, buy one. Otherwise you will NEVER be able to capture high quality video from your camera. At best it will be low quality streaming video if you use USB.
