I am using VS 11.5.0157.2 PLus. I am captueing from a SOny HDR-HC9 camcorder. The capture finshes and produces a file in the CapturedFiles folder "uvs080819-001.mpg". I can go into Edit and insert this clip into the story line. If I try to Save the project, Visual Studio crashes. The only way I can resume using VS is to delete the CapturedFiles folder.
If I try to use Windows Explorer to open the captured file, it also crashes.
Is there a codex I am missing? Is there another software package to capture HD files to MPEG-2 files?

Hmmm... Ok
Try capturing in Windows Movie Maker and also try capturing with the software included with your purchase of the video camera.
Report back.
oh... make sure you are capturinf using firewire

Windows Movie Maker does not recognize the Sony HR-HC( high hef camcorder.
Sony does not include a video editing package in their new HD camer offerings.

I have found that if I set up a separate sub-folder under the CapturedVideo folder, and store my captured vidoes in that sub-folder, everything proceeds without crashes. For some reason, VS does not like my captured videos to be stored in the CapturedVideo folder.

That's interesting!
Thanks for letting us know that.
