VS9 basic questions

I have recently upgraded from VS 7 TO VS 8 and have following questions

1) In the VS 7 vereion under prefrence we had to pick between FRAME BASED and FIELD OREDER. IN VS 8 we have to pick from Frame base, Lower Field order and Higer field order.. what does lower and higher field order mean and when to use lower or higher?

2) In VS 7.0 it alwyas rememberd my setting specially my settings for the slide (JPEG) or audio fade time or transition time from last time I used it. In VS8, I have to set it every time I start the program. is there any way for it to remember my last settings?
