My 2yr old PI-12 won't install. How do I get a new download?

Post by Art K. »

Way back in December of 2006 I took advantage of ULEAD'S offer to upgrade my old PhotoImpact 5 to PhotoImpact 12. I had a great deal of problems and questions because of ULEAD'S confusing method of presenting about a dozen very poorly named program modules to download, with no explanation of what they were, what they did, and in what order we should download and install them. Their website interfacing and explanations were mess. From mid to late December 2006,. ULEAD representative Vickie Hue and I, and even ULEAD's "Element5" distributor agent, exchanged several emails trying to get good downloads of the installation files, and a good installation.

Nothing we could do would get my PhotoImpact 12 to install properly. It has been a long time since those frustrating efforts, but if I recall correctly, the problems were that there were some errors during the downloads. Then I finally seemed to get a successful download of the necessary program or programs. But the installation still did not go well. I suspected that my old PI-5 program was not being removed properly or entirely. Also, even though I managed to get to the point of registering my PI-12, ULEAD's website registration process did not acknowledge whether my attempt to register the product was successful. So I had to drop back to my old PI-5, and have been plodding along with it ever since (i.e., going on two years).

A trip this morning to your website, indicates that ULEAD and/or COREL has made GREAT improvements to the download user. So I would like to try again to install PI-12.

I don't even know if I've still got all the proper program installation modules, so I would like to re-download all the PI-12 installation modules again. But nowhere on the ULEAD website do they say if or how a person could refresh those install files. And I've spent the best part of four days looking for someway to talk to someone at ULEAD, but they provide no way to reach either Customer Support or Tech Support. Attempts to sign in as a user proved they do not recognize my name, email address or password. I finally found a Ulead website email form for "User Suggestions", but even that form is sabotaged so that it won't accept a user's input. I might be able to reach someone if I was a registered user, but they have not and still will not allow me to register unless I install the new software, and the (no-longer new) software of course will not install. I tried to re-register my old PI-5 via its HELP button, then Register, but it gives me a white page saying Internet cannot Connect -- evidently the address is no longer valid. I go to the ULEAD website, click Support, then select Register, and get the same 'Cannot Connect' white page. The FAQs and Knowledgebase doesn't answer the questions, and every pathway to a human at Ulead is blocked.

I have all my serial numbers, purchase dates, Passwords, and keycodes from both the PI-5 installation of years ago, and the PI-12 of the December 2006 purchase.

So my questions are:
(1) May I re-download and install the latest PI-12 and associated software (free on the basis of my previous purchase), and if so WHERE AND HOW?
(2) Will re-installation allow me to Register, and if not, how can I do so, and CONFIRM that I am registered?
(3) Why doesn't Ulead provide Customer or Technical support like other providers?

Firstly Ulead/Corel do not read these posts - this site is maintained by Customers who have volunteered to try and help out by chipping in with their knowledge and experience of using the various Ulead/Corel Products supported by this site.

I know this don't help much but once again I must point out for the benefit of ALL of our members the advice I have given previously in this link
Lost Serial Numbers and Software.

When you purchase an item of software from Ulead/Corel you are also given the opportunity to purchase an extended download service so that instead of having a couple of weeks to download the software - for a fee you can extend that to a couple of years.

Of course I've read the "Lost Serial Numbers and Software". In my case I have all the serial numbers and keys, and POSSIBLY even the software, but the program download or installation gave problems since day one. And both then AND NOW, Ulead (or is it now Corel-Ulead) STILL won't let me register. So I can't even buy an UPGRADE. Seems a bit unfair for Ulead to sell something that even THEY couldn't get to work, then cease supporting it, or refuse to support it. And even not send me the installation CD I paid extra for.

If could even find out what installation programs I SHOULD have for PI-12 (what they are named, sizes etc to fully and confidently identify them), I could search my computer and might even be able to TRY again to install the cotton-picking thing from those early chaotic downloads. I'd like the info on not only the basic PI-12 install program or progams (I got the impression then that it was piece-meal), but also for the optional programs that came with them at that time (Dec-2006) , because I think I downloaded all. (Of course then I'll be risking even my old V-5 program - I might lose BOTH.)

For example, I have a "2in1.exe" that might be part of the package?? Could two or more of you users give me full descriptions of all installation programs associated with V-12 OF THAT PERIOD? I'd like at two or more people to come up with the same answers so that the info is confirmed -- I like to be very careful and sure about software installations, especially with packages that have already proved to be tricky, troublesome or broken.

I haven't tried to go through the COREL website to reach a live person, but I gather than Corel now owns Ulead? Does Corel have Customer Service and Tech Reps familiar with PhotoImpact, and is there a way I could contant THEM?

Thanks to you volunteers -- it must take a lot of patience to work with frustrated victims and software problems that you may never have experinced. And if you haven't dealt with ULEAD more than 1.5 years ago, you can't appreciate what a terrible user download interface and poor or total lack of instructions they had back then.

Firstly, Art, did you register you copy of PI with Ulead when you purchased it? If so, then your registration should be now with Corel...... as mine is for version 12. I did upgrade to X3 with Corel and all my previous purchases of software are duly listed in My Account in Corel.
I'd suggest you look there. That is, if you created an account with Corel?
If not, then you can't register as an account is a requirement.

When I purchased ESD PI 12 there were 14 files:

c360................10.083kb
component.......22,999kb
frmmask..........32,073kb
ga.................... 9.366kb
library1............41,859kb

library3............20,307kb
manual help.....34,105kb

pex86..............29,787kb
stamps sample.16,447kb
texture paper...17,982kb
upi12_esd........92,363kb

There was also a upi12 patch released a little time later .......9,797kb

For the sake of confirmation, I can confirm that there are 14 files included with the download/installation of PI-12, the same as those listed by trueblue..
