Choosing the correct capture
I'm capturing from a sony mini dv and intend to edit and create a DVD. Do I choose DV from the list or MPEG2. You can tell I'm new to this, but a pick list is difficult if you don't know what to pick.

Your best bet is DV, it's an exact copy of what's on the cam, your notactually capturing but transferring the video to HD. Similar to copying a file from one folder to another on your HD. The downside is you have to convert the video to mpeg at some point but DV-AVI is more tolerant to editing and produces better results. It also takes up more space on your yourHD.
If you select MPEG it transfers and converts at the same time but requires a fast system and will take longer to capture as you need a super fast system to do it real time, only use mpeg if your trimming the edges and adding transitions. The only good thing about capturing direct to mpeg is it save you a little time. How much depends on your system.
Personally I capture everthing in DV and have little to no trouvblr that can crop up from capping in mpeg.
