edit dvd with mf 3

Post by jo7 »

Hello,

Following problem. Using MF 3 and when i want to edit a dvd (burned with stand alone phlips dvd recorder 890) for new chapters and menus i get the error message "wrong format". However when i edit the same dvd in MF 2 i have no problem at all (except MF 2 is veeerrryyyy slow).

I've downloaded all the patches/upgrades but nothing seems to help. OS is winxp with sp2.

Any suggestions?

What format is the disk recorded in?
If the format is the -VR mode recorded on a Dvd-rw this should be no problem.
If the format is +VR mode recorded on a Dvd+rw I believe you can only edit the menu and playlist structure (Direct On-Disk editing). Actually editing of a +VR disk video may not be possible. On the Ulead WebSite there is a good descriptiion of all the new formats used by the desktop recorders.

This would relate to actual ON-DISK editing. To edit the Dvd you should be able to import the whole dvd, edit the Mpegs and rebuild another dvd.
You need to make sure the "Project Properties" match that of the source video material to maintain the correct project size.

Also on my system when the source material is Dolby audio and the output "Project Properites" is also Dolby the program hangs when rendering.

Also if you have "Nero Ultra Edition 6" with the latest updates try that program to import and edit the Mpegs. Nero will import, edit, menu burn etc.

Hello,

Actually it is DVD+VR on a DVD+rw. All I want to do is change the chapters and menu. Not editing the video-stream itself. In mF 2 i've no problems (except it is so slow). In MF 3 i get the error message "The disc is not editable because its formet is not supported".
I just want direct on-disk editing

Do you have the standard DMF3 or the Disk Creator version.

Philips DVD recorders have audio in AC3 format which the standard version does not support.

Well,

It says DVD Moviefactory 3.5 and in the startup screen i can choose to
1. Create Video disc
2. Create Slideshow disc
3. Create music dis
4. Create Data disc
5. Direct to disc
6. Edit disc
7. Copy/fit disc
8. Dvd player

Thats it. I can't find anything else.

Did this software package come with your DVD burner? If it did, it probably can't handle the AC3 audio that the Philips records.

I'm not that familiar with the 3.5 package so someone else will have to further comment on its on-disk editing capabilities with AC3 as I have the DMF3 Disk Creator version which can handle AC3 natively.

Well,

I finally de-installed mf 3.5 and installed MF 3. It all works very fine now.

I don't know what causes the problem, anyway i can re-edit my burned dvd's.

THX for the response.
