HD Editing - Stuttery Playback when viewing Project

Post by JamesU2002 »

When I click the project button above clip the playback of the movie is stuutery. Encoding is fine, but when I want to preview my finished edit, via the project button, its stuttery.

I'm editing .mts file on Ulead 11.5 Plus.

I have a high spec pc with Dual Core and 4GB Ram.

Any ideas?

An adequate PC would be a Quad-Core for editing AVCHD. So a dual-core is able to, but as you have found out, previewing is not smooth.

Can you confirm that in fact it is AVCHD you are talking about? And while doing so, could you right click on one of the files and copy all its properties here please. Could you also tell us the brand and model of your video camera.

As Ron has said, even on my Quad, playback of AVCHD in project mode can be jerky (the exception being AVCHD from a Panasonic SD9, which is essentially unplayable). But I use HDV quite a lot, and it is only slightly jerky if the project (i.e. edits, added transitions etc) are somewhat complex...

Thanks for the advice.

My camera is a Sony HDR-SR10.

The files it produces are .m2ts.

What difference could this make do you think?

Anyway, of improving the playback speed?

Hi,
You would have to activate proxy files under preferences to get a smooth "Project" playback with editing applied.. Even the quad proceesors will not process edited material in realtime for smooth preview.
.
It's the nature of the H264 format. That's how highly compressed it is.
