Please Help With My Issue. VS Keeps Turning Off

I am having trouble placing chapters into my movie. I have done the work around as describe in other threads and have saved my AVI to a MPG. Loaded the MPG and dragged into the timeline. Next I click ¡§share¡¨ then click on ¡§create disc¡¨. In the timeline give my video a title underneath the video. I then click on the video to turn on the clickable ¡§add/edit chapters¡¨. To add chapters I highlight the video so the add/edit chapters is now clickable. After clicking on add chapter I am only offered to click on ¡§Auto Add Chapters¡¨ Next I am offered a new window for me to select how many chapters. When I click on ¡§OK¡¨ I get this message below. When I click send or don¡¦t send the Video Studio program shuts down.

It has become almost a mantra with me over the past couple of months to suggest people first go to the Microsoft DirectX website and download the latest update patch. The current one is dated June 2008 and can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en
Note that it updates both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). The number of your DirectX installation will not change, but the patch gives extra functionality in a number of areas and corrects other faults in VS11 in particular which appear linked to Windows updates. Problems in the chapter building and preview areas of the burn module, seem to be amongst them.

Note that DirectX is not included in the usual pattern of Windows automatic updates. It has to be done every so often by the user manually. So unless you have recently done this, you are probably still using the original, non-updated version of DirectX which came with your computer.

Next, I am pleased to note you have converted your "avi" to MPEG before entering the authoring stage. Can I ask that you provide details of that MPEG
- did you select one of the presets or the custom option at the bottom of the list.

• If you selected "custom" please let us have the various settings you used.
• What is the duration of the video?
• Have you tried again with a different video to see if it is the video or if it appears to be either your computer or the program.
• Is this the first time you have used this program or have you been able to create DVD's before with this program?
• I note you say you loaded the video in th timeline and then selected [Share] [Create Disc] - This isn't quite right, you start a new empty project - nothing on the timeline. You then select [Share] [Create Disc] and then import that MPEG using the [Add Video files] Button

No this is not the first time I used VS. The computer is a new custom build by me and I have yet to do any updates from Mickey. So I do not have the latest Direct X installed as I went backwards in my OS. I installed XP Pro 64 Bit Edition that will run 32bit or 64 bit.

The reason I went to 64 bit is so that I can access more RAM memory. I have the entire Adobe Master Collection and use Adobe Premiere CS3 mainly to do my editing. I have Encore CS3 and would like to use it but I have not had time to learn the software. I am having an issue with Premiere of a message popping up and telling me I am running out of memory of which cannot be true, but Adobe is a 32 bit program and XP is only good for slightly over 3 gigs so it may be true in what Adobe see's in memory.

But I do like Video Studio to author my DVD's and this is why I use it. It worked great in my other computers that are Vista based and would have the latest Direct X installed.

As for my system I am running, AMD 64 dual core 3.2 gig processor with 8 gigs of ultra fast RAM memory. The video cards are a pair of SLI 8800 Ultra's with 768 Megs memory onboard each and running at 384 bits. Pair of 1000 watt power supplies is feeding this beast. The hard drives consist of a total of 6 terabytes of storage.

I used standard NTSC 4x3. Runtime 7 minutes. I have authored this video before on another computer with no problems. I believe the issue is the Direct X driver as stated by the second poster. I did try your method of importing the video but had the same results. I am going to download Direct X next...
