More Crackling Sounds Problems

Post by Kim2005 »

I'm also new to video editing software and am trying to edit my wedding videos.
I have 4 different tapes of our wedding from 4 different cameras.
We have a Samsung Mini DV VP D305i camera and when I try to capture the footage from it the preview it crackles and cuts out the whole time. (whereas the camera plays it fine) The tapes are Sony MiniDV DVM 60. However when I capture the footage from our honeymoon which we filmed on our own camera and tapes (tapes are JVC Mini DVM 60) there is no problems with the sound. Does anyone know anything about this problem?

Does the captured file crackle as well? I've noticed pops and clicks occasionally while capturing but they were the system not the file.

Yep. It's not just a little bit of crackle, it's really jumpy and you virtually can't understand a word on the video

I should probably clear up the problem.

The tapes recorded from our camera - on the JVC tapes - work fine, both on the camera and when captured.

When we switch tapes with one of the other tapes taken at our wedding - with someone else's camera (mostly Sony tapes and one TDK) the tape plays fine on the camera. When we output it to tv there is some minor noise issue. When we capture the recording to the pc (using a variety programs including video studio 8 with firewire) the recorded sound is very low and is overridden by a screeching and crackle noise...

Kim,
Could you try a tape head cleaner on the camcorder? It doesn't take much debris to cause problems.

I'm also wondering about minor head alignment differences between camcorders. Could you try capturing the noisy tapes from the specific camcorder that was used to record the video?

You can try changing the capture from "Type 2 to Type 1" in the
capture screen.
It's helps to know the "Model" number of the Sony unit the original was
recorded on.
Would be even nicer to have their camcorder and see if the tape captures
properly when their camcorder is connected to the computer.

In your camera setup screen for playback you may want to play with the audio settings if there are any output features.
Usually should be set to Main(stereo1) on Playback. Maybe it's set to MIX or whatever. The tape could have been recorded on the 2nd channels at
32khz audio. The tape could also have been recorded on the long play
feature.

Wouldn't hurt to email Samsung also with this question.

Hope this helps,

MD
