I use video studio 11.

I imported video from a mini dv tape to the editing suite. The video was taken in widescreen, when the video was importing the video was displaying the black bars top and bottom in the preview window and was the correct ratio.

When it came to drag and drop the various clips and start editing the widescrren had been squeezed into the 4:3 frame and everything was vertically stretched.

i thought it would be ok when i burnt the DVD, the DVD menu was in widescreen but the main movie i had created was still a squashed 4;3 presentation.

I have looked at various menu's but cant find anything related to display ratios of the edit in the Video studio , only the DVD burn menu's

Hi Neil

If you are using correct video then even if you place into the wrong project the frame should not be distorted. Sometimes the video is flagged with the wrong aspect.

A 4:3 into a 16:9 project may view as a smaller size but shouldn¡¦t be stretched.

If you recorded in 16:9 then captured to Mpeg as 4:3 then the frame may show as distorted.

If you are using a Mini-Dv type camcorder you should capture to DV not DVD.

If the Mini DV tape has been used for 4:3 then subsequently recorded over in 16:9 you may experience problems when reading the aspect ratio on the first few frames. Your 16:9 may capture as 4:3.
If this is the case try capturing to ¡¥Split by Scene¡¦.

Another thought, make sure that Perform Non Square Pixel Rendering IS selected from your project properties.
