Trial version 9 and Dolby Playback, (it doesn't)

Post by Trevor Andrew »

Hi

I have downloaded the trial version VS 9.
The program crashed a few times when trying to set up a capture with the error ’Vstudio.dat.exe’
The only way I could clear this was to reinstall, what a pain.

AC 3 Digital Dolby.

VS 9 trial will NOT play Digital Dolby sounds.

I am able to capture to AC 3 but cannot play back.
I can play back on VS 8 as I have the AC 3 plugin.

This I have now uninstalled with a view to the program crashes.
Things seem to be behaving at the moment.

Any one else having problems with AC 3 playback?

Thanks

Trevor

Trevor,
IMHO, these crippled versions are just trouble because sections of code are disabled and the result is never tested adequately. Moreover, too many users on this forum have reported what appears to be dropped bits during the download.

The boxed version of VS9 - AC3 works fine for me. The only unusual thing that happened was that Windows Media Player (versions 9 and then 10) refused to play any sound until I downloaded a Dolby codec.

It's probably not available in the trial version because of licensing issues.

If you mean the AC 3 Dolby.

I was able to capture to mpeg with Digital Dolby.
But could not hear the audio when playing on VS 9
I could play the file ok on my pc and VS 8.

Now i cannot capture as VS 9 crashes every time when i select the top capture option(capture video files i think)

Yes I mean the AC3 Dolbly.

How are you capturing? Perhaps your capture device supports capturing audio in AC3 dolbly but your trial version of VS9 does not support decoding it.

At the monent i am not capturing anything, the thing keeps crashing out.

I have reinstalled all ulead products.
Tried VS 9 on its own.

Funny thing though, when i go to Create Video File all the options are NTSC, I am Pal and have installed VS 9 as Pal.

I have just tried a DV quick scan option, impressed, except when i selected the output type AVI or Mpeg options cogwheel the thing crashed again.

Just retried and this time it completed the capture, placed the clips in the library, clip properties are Dolby Digital but no sound in VS 9.

I think the trial version is a bit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again because of licencing issues the trial version does not support encoding or decoding of Dolbly Digital Audio.

From all the feedback so far there is no problem in the paid for version.

FWIW, Trevor, I just installed the full version of VS 9 yesterday, and coincidentally the first thing I captured was a clip with AC-3 audio. The capture was fine and the file plays back happily with audio, and when I 'Shared' it with other files to produce a DVD-format mpg, also with AC-3. that worked fine too.

I do not think it is an issue with AC3 or dolby, if you try and capture in quick scan mode everything would seem ok. If it is an Audio incomptibility issue, why is it not causing problems in quick can mode?[/quote]
