Welcome to the forums!

However, I am afraid we are going to need more information before anyone can offer a sensible suggestion. Please read the top post on the forum -- the one that says PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING! http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... 1454#41454 Then get back to us with the requested information.

Also, can you click on the ? symbol in the top right of screen and select 'About Ulead Video Studio'. Then copy down the version number here please. You say you have version 10.5 but as far as I recall, there was no such version... just 10 and 10+. It was only with an update to VS11+ that we have now got a version 11.5+.

If your source files are VOB then can we suppose that you're trying to import video from a DVD? VS10/10+ is capable of directly inserting the VOB file format. However it is really no different then using the Insert>DVD/DVD-VR. VS parses the VOB file, stripping away the extra header info, and then inserting the MPEG-2 video.

So you should try and stick with the MPEG-2 video file format. If your intentions are to produce a DVD, then the video file format must be a DVD compatible MPEG-2. Creating an "avi" file, to then produce a DVD, will result in your entire video being recoded twice, thus a loss in quality, and longer times when rendering. In the Preferences (keyboard shortcut F6, or File menu>Preferences), make sure the option Show Message when inserting first video clip into the Timeline is checked. This is so VS will provide a prompt, asking if you want to change the Project properties to match that of your video file, so that Smart Render can be used.

Smart Render will only recode the changed parts of the video, thereby reducing the risk of quality loss. It also speeds up the time it takes to create a video file.

And you need to be careful when trying to produce an 'avi' file. There are over 800 kinds of video which use the .avi extension, yet their properties vary widely. It is just a carrier or wrapper format. So you need to know exactly what properties you are using, and most importantly the specific avi codec in question.
