Hello
I am trying to import files from a dvd into VS11.5 plus. When I click on Caputre/Import from DVD, my dvd drive is not seen by VS. If I click on "Import DVD Folder" and select my dvd drive, i get an error saying "Invalid Parameter". The drive is fine because I am play the dvd movies through Windows Media Center. I am running Vista 64-bit. Does anyone else have a similar issue? I am running this on my Gateway
M-6866 Notebook.

Thanks,
Ralph

Do you by any chance have Nero InCD installed on the computer or any other "packet wrting software?"
They are products that allow you to drag and drop files directly to be burned as data on DVDs or CDs.
Many take control of the drive on start up and refuse to let other programs play with the drive. Most can be disabled from the task bar but Nero InCD has to be uninstalled.

I did not explicitly install any NERO software and looking at the specs on my computer, NERO did not come installed. What did come installed is something called CyberLink Power 2 Go. I am not familar with this product, could this be like one of those products you mentioned?

Thanks.

I just had a look at it and it seems to be something of the sort. Is there an icon in the taskbar showing for it? If so, right click and see if there is an option to suspend it or shut it down. Then try to import again.

I do not think so, but I will double check. I do not have it loading on startup. I disabled most of those products through msconfig, but I will see if there is a service that is starting that runs in the background.

Thanks again,
Ralph

Cyberlink Power cinema 5 came bundled with a usb TV tuner dongle I bought recently...it works like a Windows Media Centre and so i don;t think it has anything to do with burning DVD or the player

OK i checked and the Power2Go software was not running in the background. I did notice that Vista seems to have a built in "burn-on-demand" feature. You can highlight some files, then select burn. I can not see where I can disabled this. Any idea's?

I have power2go which burns CD/DVD's. I think your product is something different, maybe more like WinDVD

Ok let's just get brutal here rather than fiddle around with stuff!
Put the DVD in the DVD tray of the computer and try to drag the whole VIDEO_TS folder on to the desktop using Windows.
Then try to Import from that using VS.

thats what ULEAD support said to try, which I did but I got a different error. Its started to read the dvd, then I get a failed to read dvd information error.

That would indicate some kind of problem with either the DVD, the DVD Read/Writer or Windows.
Are you saying the entire contents of the DVD are successfully copied to the desktop and THEN you get the error reading from within VS or the DVD cannot be successfuly transferred over to the desktop?
Does this error occur on other DVDs?

ULEAD came back and said that I would need to rename any vob files to mpeg files. once I did that, I was able to insert the video files into my time line. That works, but I told them that is a not a workable solution as this is not an issue on widows xp. the drive is fine and the dvd;s are fine as other programs work fine. I can actually insert video files from a dvd into VS, i just can not IMPORT dvd files.

Does that make any sense?
