Glitches in dvd

I compressed my original file from 6.3GB so it could fit onto a 4.7GB disc. It has what i call glitches in the picture when played back on a dvd player. For a moment the picture stalls then catches up. Has this happened because the file has been compressed or do you think it is unrelated. The audio file is fine. I took the file down to 5000 bitrate and it runs for 1hour 50mins. I have VS11.5.
Also when i produced another dvd by copying the original using Clone DVD this glitches were more noticable.
Thanks
Anita

You don't tell us the properties of the video you were burning. But on the assumption that it was DVD-compatible mpeg-2, then it is unlikely that the lowering of the bitrate would have caused glitches. That could have been caused by a number of factors. Personally, I suspect you probably burned it too fast. If you have, say, a disc rated to be burned at a maximum speed of 12x, then you should burn it at 4x and not 12x. Similarly, if it is a 16x or higher rated disc, then burn it at, say, 8x but not at the top rated speed.
Other possible causes are that your burning might not like the brand of disc you are using, or the type (+R or -R) or even the colour of the dye on the disc.

Sorry. You assumed correctly about the mpeg2. I didn't know about lowering the speed of burning a disc. I'll give that a go. Thanks very much for your help.
