Newbie having problems with Ulead 11

Post by djrazr »

Hey guys

I know to use the search button, but i wanted to get some input on what i'm doing wrong. In the meantime, i will read some stickies and hit the search button

I have a bunch of avi files on my pc. When i go to merge them together, and i play the whole file back, i lose alot of clarity. I'm not sure what to save it as, so i save it as avi. Should i save it as something else to keep or increase the clarity? There is so much to ulead, that it's pretty frustrating

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The best you can do in, any case, is to keep the clarity. Next to impossible to improve if it is not there.

One more thing. Your statement "I have a lot of AVI files..." is about as descriptive of their contents as "I have a bucket of liquid..". It could be anything in both cases.

AVI is a carrier format which can contain from uncompressed video files (>60GB per hour) to highly compressed DivX or mpeg4 files with only a few hundred MB for a full length movie. Mixing these different types is going to create the symptoms you describe.

What type of AVI are you referring to and/or where did these come from?

Also...what appears on the preview screen is a very muddy 'preview' of what the final product looks like. So don't judge by what you see on the preview screen.

To expand on Clevo's advice, if you have your preview set for Instant Playback the results on screen will not be clear. That is just giving you a rough preview on the fly.

Go to File > Preferences and change your preview to HQ. When you press play your project will render a temp file (may take a while depending upon the length of your project) that will play back comparable to what will be burned to disc.
