Hi there
I have converted my analog video to MPEG-2 using a Hauppauge 150 card. I successfully edited the video in VS11+ without much problem.
I then tried to Share the result by burning it to DVD. This caused VS to crash. After reading various posts in this forum, I tried converting it first to a Video File (PAL DVD 4:3 format) and then tried burning it to DVD.
The result is still the same, namely:
- When I try to create a DVD, my imported file does not show in the preview screen. Consequently, I cannot preciew the video and add chapters
- When selecting Auto Add Chapters, the software crashes.
Any assistance here would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Many problems in the preview stage of the burn module seem to be corrected if you go to the Microsoft DirectX wesbite and download and install the latest update patch (currently dated June 2008). Note that it works for both DirectX 9.0c (XP) and 10 (Vista). Note also that DirectX is not part of the regular Windows updates, so you have to do it manually. And if you have never done it, it means that you still have the original version of DirectX which came with the computer. Windows updates in recent months appear to need a recent version of DirectX to run them, and this apparently also applies to some aspects of VS.

Winda,
Are your System Specs correct, Pent II,? If so, then I think that may be the problem, a very under-resourced system for running VS11.

problem burning to DVD
Hi all
Ken, I tried updating my DirectX version to 9.0c for my XP system, but this did not help. Still no preview window and no ability to jog through content and define chapters.
Black lab - some details as you requested.
I am running VS11.0.0157.0 Plus.
My encoded content from the Happauge card is:
DVD PAL
MPEG-2 Video
24 bits, 720x576, 4:3
25 frames/sec
VBR Max 8Mbps
Audio MPEG Audio layer 2
My content after creating a PAL DVD file through VS (as reccomended in the forum) has the exact same properties as those listed for the original content. In fact, the coversion process is very quick and shows that 99% of the content is OK and that only 2 splice points needed re-encoding.
Project properties:
PAL (25 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo
Output properties:
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First
(DVD-PAL), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Re error codes, there are none. VS just crashes, sometimes invoking the windows fault screen where you can submit a dump to Microsoft. I checked the EventViewer logs and could see no application fault there.
Please advise on how best to tackle this.
Thanks

Apparently you haven't applied the UPDATES (Update Pack & Power Pack) or else your version would be 11.0.0157.2.I am running VS11.0.0157.0 Plus.
Also, you don't say what the field order is of your source clip, but I assume it is Upper Field First since it orginated from an analog source. Therefore, your output properties should also be UFF.
